Dramatized re-enactment of an attack by a German U-boat on a U.S. Merchantman underway in the Atlantic Ocean during World War 2. U.S. merchant seamen below decks as torpedo hits. Everything is shaken up and water enters their mess hall. The ship catches fire. Some seamen are thrown out of their bunks. All struggle to evacuate the lower decks. Fire breaks out. The U-boat steers, on the surface toward the lifeboat. The survivors exchange harsh words with the U-boat captain, as one of his officers photographs the scene. The U-boat then rams the lifeboat, cutting it in two. The survivors swim to a nearby raft.
