Opening scene shows a German soldier using a sounding range and direction finder to locate British aircraft attacking German installations in France during World War 2. The next scene is during a foggy night. German searchlights are seen trying to locate attacking British aircraft. A flare is seen falling toward the ground. German antiaircraft guns fire. Engine sounds of aircraft are heard. View of German gunners firing tracer bullets and heavier antiaircraft guns skyward. A ball of fire in the air marks a struck British airplane. Closeup of burning British aircraft wreckage. Next, a ledger of British aircraft downed by a German antiaircraft battery is seen. It shows a list of British aircraft shot down in July and August, including: Bristol Blenheim light bomber; Short Stirling bomber, numerous Spitfires; and other aircraft. Workers are seen walking through a yard filled with the wreckage of British aircraft in a junk yard, where a powered crane is seen raising wings, and engines of the aircraft and loading them onto rail cars. Passengers jam a train at an open air railway platform in China. Many sit, together with their belongings, on roof of the train. Some persons on the station offer to sell food to occupants of the train. Change of scene shows Soviet Lieutenant General Vasily Chuikov, advisor to Chinese Generalissimo Chiang Kai-Shek, having an amicable conversation with a Chinese Major General and his aide in World War II.(The latter has injury to his nose.) Next, several Russian troops are seen standing guard in unkempt town square, containing a monument. They appear unsettled by the presence of the cinematographer. Building in background flies Soviet flag and has large picture of Stalin on it. Views are shown of a modern building with drive up ramp to entrance (airport terminal?) and then of a stylish train station displaying Chinese (KMT) and Soviet flags and pictures of Lenin and Stalin. ( Glimpse of a tall white monument with a Soviet T-34 tank on top, followed by another view of the train station.) Next a corner building in the city is seen with Armed Chinese guards protecting sacks of food supplies piled up next to it. A Chinese officer walks past the guards and into the building. View of car and pedestrians on a dusty city street. More views of the Chinese guards and foodstuffs. (Note 1: The images seen here are mixed in place and time, including 1941 and 1945..) (Note 2: Soviet Lieutenant General Vasily Chuikov was recalled from China at end of 1941, and placed in command of the Soviet 62nd Army responsible for the defense of Stalingrad.)
A U.S. helicopter SH-3A hovers over the Caribbean Sea and lowers a dipping sonar. The helicopter is from Helicopter Antisubmarine Squadron Eleven (HS-11) flying from the aircraft carrier USS Wasp (CVS-18).
Opening scene shows a Navy anti-submarine warfare SH-3A helicopter, of ASM Squadron HS-11, from Carrier Anti-Submarine Air Group 52 (CVSG-52) on the Carrier USS Wasp (CVS-18). It is filmed from another nearby helicopter as it executes a "dippiing sonar" procedure during fleet maneuvers in the Caribbean Sea. .It is seen lowering an ASW tranducer, into the water by means of a cable. The helicopter remains in a hover throughout the sequence, with the sonor buoy deployed.
