A Saudi Arabian communication satellite (and two other satellites) are launched in space by United States space shuttle Discovery on mission STS-51G. An Arabic news bulletin anchor, speaking in English, introduces the event. He then tries to interview first Saudi Arabian space flier Prince Sultan Salman bin Al Saud through video conferencing. Sultan Salman of Saudi Arabia, in United States space shuttle Discovery, is visible on a TV monitor in the background. During delays while attempting to make voice contact with Prince Saud, the news anchor, now speaking in Arabic, reports about the space flight in Discovery. Finally, radio contact is made, and the anchor is able to converse with Prince Saud about his experience.

Guests are U.S. Senator Jim Sasser from Tennessee and Arnold L Raphel, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of Near Eastern and South Asian Affairs. They discuss the 20mm Anti Aircraft guns purchased by the United States that should be handed over to Afghan resistance. Arnold L Raphel states that the Afghanistan situation is an issue between the Soviet Union and the rest of the world.

He talks about the greatness of the nation. He also talks about two of America's founding fathers, a Boston lawyer named Adams and a Virginia planter named Jefferson. They had become political rivals in the Presidential election of 1800. After many years when both retired, they began to speak to each other again through letters. In 1826 on the 50th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence they both died. He appeals to people to stand together and says that we shall not repeat the mistakes made in the past. People applaud. He says that Americans must simplify our tax system, make it more fair and bring rates down for all who work and earn. He emphasizes the need to take further steps to permanently control Government's power to tax and spend, returning responsibilities to the people, state and local governments, reducing dependency and upgrade the dignity of those who are infirm or disadvantaged.

But much remains to be done. There is only one way to reduce the cost of national security, and that is to reduce the need for it.
