The USS Nevada (BB-36) under repair at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. She has been re-floated and a large complement of sailors and repair technicians are seen on deck. She flies a large American flag, celebrating her successful recovery. Cranes are seen on her deck. She is being removed from drydock #2 after repairs to topedo and bomb damage suffered Dec 7th, 1941. A tugboat takes her under tow with line attached to the stern. An admiral's barge cuts across the bow of the Nevada. (Note: The mission of the Trout was to deliver anti-aircraft ammunition to the U.S. forces defending Corregidor. Fenno's sub was called on to deliver the ammunition because surface ships and aircraft were unable to penetrate the tight Japanese defenses. The mission was classified as "top secret." The USS Trout delivered the munitions and then brought back more than 6 tons of Philippine gold and 630 bags of silver, as ballast. Commander Fenno was awarded the Navy Cross and the Distinguished Service Cross, by the United States Army, and the officers and enlisted men of the Trout each received the Silver Star for successfully completing this unusual and dangerous mission. The USS Trout received a Presidential Unit Citation.)

Opening scene shows Keio University (2 Chome-15-45 Mita, Minato City, Tokyo 108-8345, Japan) in Tokyo, Japan, before World War II. Six students walk side-by-side toward the camera. Next, they are seen in rowing attire, carrying their racing shell (a sculling boat) above their heads, and then placing it gently into a river. View from Coxwain's position, of rowers pulling on their oars. Scene shifts to view above the river as two sculling boats, each with eight rowers, compete in a race. A launch carrying an umpire follows the racing boats.
