Animation shows U.S. strategy for advances against Japanese in the Solomon Islands, and beyond, emanating from bases on Guadalcanal. The remote island of Rendova. U.S. Army, Marine, and Seabee units landing on Rendova. A U.S. Navy Douglas SBD Dauntless dive bomber flies very low over the landing party. LVTs are seen (Landing Vehicle Track). Scenes of dense jungle. Large amounts of supplies are unloaded on the beachhead. U.S. troops set up antiaircraft guns on the beachhead. A formation of 4 Japanese dive bombers approaches. They peel off and attack. Fires burn from Japanese bombing. U.S. casualties being treated at the beachhead. U.S. marines exchange fire with Japanese snipers in dense jungle. Several dead Japanese soldiers. LSTs (Landing ship Tank) arrive at beachhead, carrying heavy armor and construction equipment. Seabees operating bulldozers on the island. 155 mm guns are pulled through the jungle, emplaced, and commence firing.
Reinforcements and supplies arriving on Guadalcanal during World War 2. Various views of Soldiers and supplies arriving from transport ships. These operations are occuring in 1943, after Guadalcanal has been secured and now being prepared as a base for further allied advances against Japanese-held islands on the road to Japan itself. In one scene Soldiers are seen arrivng on a Higgins Boat from the transport ship, USS George Clymer (APA-27). Most of the film shows supplies being amassed on the beachhead. Local natives are employed helping unload and store the large quantities of supplies.
Representatives of United Nations countries, who participates in the Korean War, gather for a ceremony at a cemetery (UN Memorial Park) in Pusan, South Korea. Troops stand in attention. Officers and officials come and greet other officers standing beside the path. Troops and sailors stand in attention. Flags of United States, France, Britain, India and various countries are seen on poles over the cemetery. A contingent of 4 Australian soldiers stand before their national flag, where a wreath lies at the flag pole base. U.S. Lieutenant General Matthew Ridgway is seen leading the representatives in the proceedings.
Britain's Prime Minister Winston Churchill arrives in United States. He arrives on the 'Queen Mary' ship in New York harbor. Officials and other dignitaries greet him at the Army base in Brooklyn. Then he boards the President's airplane "Independence" at Floyd Bennett field to go to Washington DC. U.S. President Truman greets him at Bolling Field. U.S. Capitol and Washington Monument both visible in background. Churchill addresses the people at the airfield and talks about the harmony and close bonds between the two countries. Truman comments briefly also with words of agreement.
German reinforcements arrive on the plains of the Ukraine. A map shows various places. German troops arrive at a railroad train station and get off for a short rest stop. They obtain cigarettes and snacks at a refreshment stand attended by local women. Sign above the stand reads: "Marketenderei." The troops wash and shave and then reboard the train to continue their journey. The train travels through flat featureless snow-covered terrain, arriving at an Army base, where the troops leave the train. Writing on the side of a wooden building reads:"Urlauber GD hier melden gegenuber Haus 29." The troops sign in, receive instructions, and board trucks to the front, where they proceed on foot in the snow. One soldier carries a pet lamb in his arms. They move supplies on sleds pulled by horses through a forest, past parked German tanks and halftracks. Troops line up for soup and relax as they eat. Two soldiers,in white winter combat uniform gear, talk about their families at home. One shows a photo of his child, and the other shows a black doll dressed in skirt and hat -- perhaps a Christmas tree decoration. The soldiers amuse themselves wrestling and throwing snow at one another. A soldier in a StuG III tank destroyer. Troops in white outerwear seen in trenches, crawling through the snow, and operating a switchboard in a field communications center. Officers discuss over maps. Infantry moves out in the snow, carrying small arms and trenching tools. Tiger tanks of s.Pz.Abt.503 along with artillery and infantry move across vast barren snow-covered plains.Two Soviet soldiers in a foxhole, are captured. German soldier unearths a mine. Several more seen. Sign erected warning of mines. Artillery fires. Wooden buildings in village set ablaze. Soviet tank abandoned and smoking. Knocked out Soviet tanks, artillery, and vehicles. (World War II period).
Bombing the Leyte Island, Manila. Carrier based planes bomb the island. Officer gives final orders of attack to the pilots. Pilots board their aircraft. Aircraft takes off from the carrier deck. Planes in formation. High altitude view of the sea. Planes drop bombs. Admiral Radford watches through binoculars for the return of the fliers. Smoke arises due to bombarding. Soldiers fire from battleship. Smoke arises from fliers hit by the enemy bombs. Aircraft on carrier. Wounded pilot on board. Soldiers stand in line on the battleship. Officer decorates them.
