A magician comes on stage at a theater. He bows in front of the camera, removes his coat and hat. The magician folds his coat, causing it to disappear into thin air. The magician performs a second trick- he takes a white handkerchief from his pocket, holds the handkerchief over his knees. A pile of tissue paper suddenly appears on top of a chair. The magician takes up the tissue paper and shakes it a few times and three live geese fly out upon the floor. The magician pulls out a black cloth over a basin. Live small animals, geese, and a child appear in the basin.

Dramatized scenes: A demon in period costume named Mephisto meets a magician. He shows the demon a vacant swing. The magician conjures a woman sitting in the swing. The demon makes the young woman disappear from the swing, surprising the magician. The magician conjures another young lady in the swing as well as a skeleton. The magician conjures the two young women back on stage. The two women hold the men’s hands and they bow in front of the audience.

Russian troops eating while settled in a field during a snow storm, in World War 1. They are all dressed in warm clothing. Their rifles are stacked amongst them. Several soldiers entertain others by dancing, accompanied by a violinist and a man playing accordian. A mascot dog is held on leash by an onlooker. Scene shifts to infantrymen marching loosely, behind mounted officer, along path in a snowy field. Later, they proceed single file through snow. A town square in Russia is seen jammed with soldiers and civilians around time of Russian Revolution. Several hold large banners. A uniformed man passes out paper fliers to the crowd. Troops are seen carrying flags as they march through the snow. Then they form in a large circle, and are addressed by a senior officer, as a clergyman stands behind him. Inserted view of Lev Kamenev addressing troops, in a warmer time and place. Sequence then reverts back to troops in the snow, displaying red flag, and seemingly pledging allegiance to the Bolsheviks. Final scenes show troops parading in snowy Red Square, in Moscow.
Events during World War I. Russian battle casualties are moved, on stretchers, amongst trains in rail yard. One casualty appears to have died and is rolled from a stretcher onto a wheeled cart. Soldier talks with one casualty who lifts his head and then lies down again. Another wounded soldier converses with attendants, dressed in white clothes, as they bend over his stretcher, lying on the ground. They appear to be reassuring him.
