Hindus gather to hear Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru's address on India's anniversary of Independence. Two hundred thousand Hindus gather in front of a fort in New Delhi to hear Prime Nehru's address on the occasion of India's ninth anniversary of her independence. During the course of his address the Prime Minister warns of a great threat to he world peace posed by the Suez Canal crisis. He tells of his yearning to act as a peacemaker in the dispute.
