U.S. Navy McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II crashes at St. Louis, Missouri. It was test flight #155557 MAC 2833. The F-4J aircraft taxis for take off, lifts off and climbs steeply. Pilot and co-pilot eject. (Both survived: Pilot C. D. "Pete" Pilcher, Production Test Pilot, McDonnell Douglas Corporation; and Radar Observer Harvey A. Begay in backseat position.) Plane moves flatly through air in vertical position. It loses all speed. Aircraft falls flatly, impacts runway and explodes into a huge fireball. Black smoke billows up from impact area. Plane continues to burn. F-4J ablaze. Crash crew makes way to fire. Ambulance on ground. Pilot Pilcher and Radar Observer Begay meet-up together with other personnel on the airfield and observe the blazing aircraft from which they had ejected. They walk around a military station wagon. Britain's Prime Minister Winston Churchill arrives in United States. He arrives on the 'Queen Mary' ship in New York harbor. Officials and other dignitaries greet him at the Army base in Brooklyn. Then he boards the President's airplane "Independence" at Floyd Bennett field to go to Washington DC. U.S. President Truman greets him at Bolling Field. U.S. Capitol and Washington Monument both visible in background. Churchill addresses the people at the airfield and talks about the harmony and close bonds between the two countries. Truman comments briefly also with words of agreement.
Marshal Hermann Goering visits German airbase, Messerschmitt factory, and local citizens in Germany (WW2)
Marshal Hermann Goering arrives at a German airfield in World War II. Goering is greeted by numerous German Air Force officers. Among the high ranking officers seen are: Generalmajor Adolph Gallant, Commander of Germany's fighter force, and Field Marshal Erhard Milch. Goering chats with German fliers. He walks with Professor Wilhelm (Willy) Messerschmitt. Goering and others look at the next model of Messerschmitt fighter that will be placed into service. Views of Goering visiting war factories. views of factory operations with molten metals. Goering steps out on the Landstrasse and mingles with local workers and civilians. Children present flowers to Goering. Large crowds surround Marshal Goering and his car as he departs.

One by one, 29 B-17 aircraft of the 91st Bomb Group (out of 36 launched) return from their bombing mission over Wilhelmshaven, Germany during World War 2. Many suffered battle damage and have wounded crew aboard. The B-17, "Dame Satan," is seen with large holes in it. The B-17, "Old Bill," is shot to pieces, with its nose missing. Lieutenant Colonel Stanley T. Wray waits in control tower as three more aircraft arrive, including the "Memphis Belle." Her crew members relax and smile as she lets down to land. Her pilot, Captain Morgan buzzes the airfield before landing to complete their 25th bombing mission. They are congratulated by well wishers on the ground. Their crew chief paints the 25th bomb on the "Memphis Belle" fuselage. Change of scene: Brigadier General Haywood S. Hansell, Jr. awards a Distinguished Flying Cross to each crew member. Change of scene: King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, of England, visit the flight crew and ground crew of "Memphis Belle" and converse with them. Change of scene: Lieutenant General Jacob L. Devers, Commander of U.S. Army Forces in Europe, and Major General Ira Eaker, Commander of the 8th Air Force, visit and greet the crew. General Devers reads their orders to return to the United States and encourage Americans on the home front.
