German U boat fires deck guns at Allied ship during World War II. Submarine crash dives and survives depth charge attack

They fire and hit freighter, which billows smoke and starts to sink. Alarm is sounded. Crew rushes down the hatch as submarine crash dives. View of engine room in submarine and other compartments, as depth charges explode around it. Crew operates manual pumps and secures compartments as water rushes into the submarine. After the danger has past, the submarine surfaces and the Captain climbs on deck.

In his speech he makes the following remarks, 'American must head in the direction of a greater satisfaction in life for the average man. Democracy must find solutions for far-reaching problems. Millions of Americans in slums and small cities live in habitations which fail to provide benefits of modern civilization breed disease and impair the health of future generations. Tenant farmers could be provided with some financial assistance, advice and training, to make them self-supporting on land which can eventually belong to them. Social security system needs to be developed. Immediate industrial and commercial activity does not justify the unemployment problem'.

German cruiser, Admiral Graf Spee, is scuttled in Montevideo, Uruguay.
Opening scene shows the German cruiser Admiral Graf Spee entering the Port of Montevideo, in neutral Uruguay, South America. She seeks to make repairs after an encounter with British warships in the battle of River Plate, caused severe damage to her fuel and water systems. Closeups of the Graf Spee as she moves toward a dock. Glimpse of injured sailors secured in litters on deck. A small launch carrying dead sailors for burial at sea. Subsequent scenes show the Graf Spee leaving Montevideo, after her allotted 72 hour respite. (The German high command was convinced that superior British forces awaited her exit from the River Plate estuary. So they decided to scuttle her.) Aerial views show the Graf Spee proceeding in the estuary. Next, they show smoke and fire as explosives aboard are detonated to scuttle and sink her. Final views are from water level showing the Graf Spee sinking with heavy black smoke billowing all around her.

Opening scene shows Lend Lease military equipment covered with canvas, at a port in the United States, during World War 2. A B-26 bomber with wings removed outboard of its engines, is being maneuvered for shipment at a port in the United States. A Lockheed P-38 airplane is moved on a crane and then rolled along a pier toward the stern of the U.S. Light Cruiser, USS Phoenix (CL-46) which is docked there. Wings of a Curtiss SOC-1 Seagull scout plane can be seen on the Phoenix. Two more P-38 aircraft are rolled along the pier, past another Brooklyn class Light Cruiser at the end of the pier. (Her triple 6-inch gun turrets are noticeable.) Crated supplies are seen being lowered into ship cargo holds. An American M2 light tank being lowered from a crane. An American M3 Lee tank being secured in a ship. Numerous tanks in a ship’s cargo hold. Next, a convoy of ships carrying war materiel overseas is seen at sea. A U.S. Cruiser plunging through heavy seas. View from her bridge overlooking her triple gun turrets, as her bow is awash in waves. A formation of U.S. battleships, led by a Nevada class Battle Ship armed with twin over triple forward gun turrets.
