Overflowing Tallahatchie River floods the streets of Glendora, Mississippi. Submerged farms are deserted and prisoners are brought to the stricken region to stem the tide of the rising river. African American prisoners in striped prison uniforms shovel earth while a white guard watches the prisoner work gang. Sand sacks are used as barriers. Prisoners wade through water carrying sand bags to block rising water. Sack stacks to block the water from entering streets. Houses half merged in water. Man rows boat.
