After World War 2, Japanese people in post-war, poverty stricken Japan scavenge for resources and food amidst shortages and rationing. In Tokyo: Japanese children work in ruins of a bath house near a group of miner's houses in the Higashi Misome Mine area. Children working to pick up pieces of tile which they have loosened with a hammer and an iron bar. Two children's hands seen working with a hammer and a tile. Two boys in a wrecked bath tub chiseling a tile. Two boys and girls search the debris of the bath house. In Osaka : Japanese women, men and children scrape up corn kernels off a road, which have been spilled there from a passing truck.
