Operation Torch, Allied invasion of North Africa, during World War II. Free French troops aboard the USS Samuel Chase (APA-26) in waters off Algeria. The troops load into Higgins boats LCVP ( Landing Craft Vehicle Personnel). French troops climb over the rail of the transport as they get into the LCVP which then pulls away. The LCVP underway with the transport ship anchored in the background. Several LCVPs head towards a beach. Two U.S. Coast Guardsmen, in a boat flying a striped maroon and gold flag, seem to be monitoring and supervising the other boats. French troops unload at the beach.
