Inaugural Ceremony of U.S. President Ronald Reagan at the United States Capitol in Washington DC. People gathered for the ceremony. President Reagan addresses them. He says that he has approved a research program to find a security shield that would destroy nuclear missiles before they reach their targets (this later became the Strategic Defense Initiative or SDI, or so-called Star Wars initiative). It would help demilitarize the arsenals of the earth. He says that there will be a meeting with the Soviets hoping to agree on a way to rid the world of the threat of nuclear destruction. He also says that all the Americans will work together for achieving success.
