A phosphate mine in the United States. African American men work with shovels and pick axes to dig by hand and fill rail road gondola cars. African American workers dig out phosphate with shovels and picks. Smoke rises in the background. A foreman in a long coat stands and watches over the workers. Railroad gondolas loaded with phosphate ore. The small railroad cars are moved by locomotive train engine to an elevated dumping area. Crates of ore ascend the rail track to the top dumping station and are emptied. They are then rolled back down empty, and diverted to a different track via a rail switch. A railroad gondola train leaves the depot area towing empty cars back to the mining area. Clip ends showing a large spinning industrial drum used in part of the phosphate processing.
