A survey of physical damage of bomb blasts in Nagasaki, Japan after World War II. Two officers of United States Strategic Bombing Survey (USSBS) physical damage team search for tiles. A tile in hands for examination. A medical team composed of Lieutenant Commander Nello Pace and Lt. Robert E. Smith takes readings of residual radiation in the area in front of the entrance to the Nagasaki Prison. A Geiger Mueller counter team reads the amount of radiation and plots the findings on a map. Robert E. Smith of USN operates the counter and another officer stands near holding a board with a map of Nagasaki. The officer adjusts the dial of the counter. The needles on the counter respond to the amount of residual radiation in the area. The officers move about and point the counter in a new position.
