A Cessna L-19 Bird Dog, aircraft, marked with three stars, arrives, carrying the new Commander of the Eight Army, Lieutenant General James Van Fleet. He climbs out of the airplane and shakes hands with a Brigadier General. Standing behind him is Air Force Lieutenant General Earle E. Partridge, commander of the 5th Air Force. A jeep carrying General Van Fleet turns in from a dirt road. A sign reads "56th Regiment, Message Center." Lieutenant General Van Fleet, climbs out of the front right seat of the jeep. Opening scene shows Major General Robert H. Soule, Commander of the Third Infantry Division, in Korea, speaking to a soldier, from a a jeep. His jeep moves past a U.S. tank. A U.S. Chaffee tank (named "Belle") drives past the camera. (Narrator notes that the enemy opened the gates of the Chowan Reservoir to flood the area.) Two Patton tanks are seen at water's edge. Another is making way through the water. Three U.S. soldiers atop a hill. One looks through a pair of binoculars. U.S. infantry walking downhill beside a dry culvert. One examines an area of straw, that might hide enemy soldiers. He throws a grenade into it, that explodes raising smoke and noise. UN forces moving easily across roads and paths in the valley. (Narrator notes that in the meantime enemy forces infiltrated into the surrounding hills and then attacked with ferocity.) UN forces firing a 155 mm long tom howitzer to counter the enemy. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers use a mobile crane and other construction equipment to rebuild a bridge during the Korean War. They lower a cable as an inflatable boat arrives carrying steel sections for the construction. The boat and its cargo is pulled in and tied up to the existing structure. Scene shifts to a dirt road, where several Patton tanks are clustered near a large tent. Tank crews are checking their guns and equipment. The Foreign Ministers and Defense Secretaries of many countries seated at a desk in Brussels, Belgium. They arrive for the Brussels North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Conference. Officials from different countries including French Statesman Robert Schuman and British Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Ernest Bevin arrive at the conference. U.S. Secretary of State Dean Acheson addresses the officials and talks about the election of General Eisenhower as the Supreme Commander of NATO. He also states about the formation of new defense production board.
