Citizen residents of Upper Silesia voting to determine whether they will be associated with Germany or Poland.

After World War 1, in accordance with Article 88 of the Treaty of Versailles, residents of Upper Silesia are deciding by ballot, whether to be attached to Germany or Poland. Citizens in Kattowitz (Katowice) milling about in front of a building with a sign that reads ' Deutsche Sammelstelle. ' A horse and wagon passes them. Armed French occupation troops climb aboard an open truck. A small boy watching is chased away by a soldier.The truck drives away, past crowds of people on sidewalks. Three uniformed French soldiers pose in front of crowd of spectators. Three uniformed men with Red Cross arm bands stand under red cross flag flying from building. People massed at entrance to a building move into it under sign reading "eingang." A French officer (General Henri Le Rond) standing with a British officer (Colonel Henry Percival) and an Italian officer (General Antonio de Marinis), reads a newspaper and converses with the others in garden at Oppeln (Opole). Views from moving train of industrial complexes with numerous smoke stacks and factories, in the Oppeln region of Upper Silesia. A map showing area of plebiscite, and the coal reserves and coal mines of the region.

The Albert Einstein Tower (Einsteinturm) astrophysical observatory in Potsdam, Germany

Film opens showing German astronomer, Erwin Finlay-Freundlich, who designed the solar telescope housed in the Einstein Tower observatory. He poses in a white laboratory coat (without his glasses) and then steps away to put them on and climb steps leading the way to the tower. The unusual building sits in a park-like setting on the Potsdam Telegraph Hill and contains Finlay-Freundlich's solar telescope for observations related to the theory of relativity. (Although he did not work at this facility, Einstein endorsed its construction and mission. In his honor, it is named the Einstein tower, aka Einsteinturm.) The remainder of the film shows various views of the observatory.

General Ludendorff with Nazi Storm Troopers in Munich

Spectators are gathered on the steps at the left side of the Propyläen in Königsplatz, Munich. Quartermaster General (Generalquartiermeister) Erich Ludendorff, and several army officers walk forward, from the nearby doorway. Next, a procession of Sturm Abteilung (Storm troopers) is seen, wearing Nazi armbands. They parade in the streets of Munich, carrying Nazi flags. Several thousand assemble in Königsplatz. Next, General Ludendorff is seen on the steps of the Glyptothek (in Königsplatz) surrounded by civilians.
