House Committee on Un-American Activities (HUAC) conducts hearing in Washington, DC, United States. Witness, Johannes (Hanns) Eisler, is testifying. In response to question whether he is now or has ever been a Communist, Eisler states that he is not. He adds that, as a young man, in 1926, he applied for membership, but did not pursue it and "dropped out." Questioner re-states the question as: "Are you now or have you ever been a member of the Communist Party." The witness acknowledges that he might have been construed as a member of the communist party for two months, but he never was active or interested. He holds up a book entitled "Compositions for the Films." He protests committee characterization of some of his creative, artistic, works.

Commander Richard E. Byrd, receives the National Geographic Society Hubbard Gold Medal, from President Calvin Coolidge. The event takes place on June 23, 1926, in the auditorium of the National Geographic Headquarters, at 1146 Sixteenth Street, in Washington DC. The audience includes Mrs. Coolidge (on the stage) as well as cabinet officers; members of the diplomatic corps; and National Geographic Society members. Scene shifts to grounds of the White House, on February 27, 1927, as President Calvin Coolidge places the Tiffany Cross Medal of Honor around the neck of Commander Richard E. Byrd. A pour test and a flash test is used to assess the efficiency of lubricating oil in Indiana, United States.
The testing of oil for its lubricating efficiency in Indiana. Stillman blends the various grades and types of lubricating oil in the compounding room. The 'pour test' of the oil is done to determine the lowest temperature at which the oil will flow. Then the oil is passed through the 'flash test' to determine the temperature at which the oil will flash when a lighted taper is passed across its surface.
