Narrator describes how to withdraw from a long thrust attack over footage of a soldier demonstrating it in slow motion. Includes both font and side views of the movement. Narrator then discusses common errors made when withdrawing from a long thrust attack over footage of trainees practicing the move.
Narrator discusses logistics of combining the long thrust bayonet attack with the withdrawal from said attack, and how to coach a group of soldiers into being fluid with the movement. This occurs over footage of an instructor demonstrating the move, first slowly and then at full speed. 6 trainees practice the moves with an instructor coaching them. First each move is done one by one, then chained together until all are performed in one fluid movement. The entire sequence is practiced two times. Final instruction given by the narrator is to practice in pairs without commands.
Narrator describes different exercises that can be used to practice the long thrust bayonet attack and withdrawal. Two trainees practicing the long thrust and withdrawal while facing each other, passing each other and then turning around to repeat the exercise. A large group of soldiers practicing the attack on straw dummies hung from posts in a large field, first closeup and then from several paces away. The trainees attack and then move past the dummy to continue as they would in a real combat scenario. Shots of incorrect attacks are shown while the narrator discusses the mistakes of the trainees. Finally, a correct attack is shown from a side and front view while the narrator describes it.
Narrator discusses the logistics of the parry right move with the fixed bayonet, over slow motion front view footage of the move without an opponent. Move is then demonstrated and discussed with an opponent soldier. Finally, the full sequence (parry, long thrust, withdrawal, guard position) is shown in slow motion and at full speed.
Slow motion demonstration of the fixed bayonet parry left movement without an opponent and with the narrator explaining its execution. Movement then demonstrated against an opponent at full speed, shown from the front and the back. Six soldiers practice one by one in a line, while the narrator discusses the errors each one makes. Description and demonstration of the non-verbal commands an officer would use to signal a parry right or left while training a soldier. Group practicing parries in two lines facing each other with an instructor in the center.
Narrator introduces the bayonet training stick or parry stick over footage of two soldiers practicing with said device. Large group practicing in pairs again with one man thrusting the parry stick and another practicing parries against the stick. Demonstration of the correct and incorrect use of the parry stick. Narrator advises against making false starts or false signals with the parry stick over footage of soldiers making false signals to try to lure their partner into an early parry. Narrator discusses how to incorporate the parry stick into a longer sequence of movements including a thrust through a loop of rope on the end of the parry stick after the parry, which is then followed by a withdrawal. Soldiers are shown practicing this sequence before tossing the training bayonet and the parry stick to one another and switching roles. Large group practicing full sequence. Views of U.S. Army base or training encampment buildings in background.
