They descend steps from Trans Canada airliner. Officials at the airport welcome him. He converses with the officials before driving away in a car. (Note: Douglas Bader was Leader of an all-Canadian RAF Squadron in World War II, despite having lost both legs in a plane crash before the war. He was captured by the Germans after parachuting from his aircraft. Replacement aluminum legs were airdropped for him, with German permission, while he was in captivity.) .

Views of oil-stained motor lifeboat and cabin picket boat used by U.S. Coast Guard in rescuing survivors from the tanker, R.P. Resor, after it was torpedoed by the German U-boat U-578, on the night of 28 February, 1942, in World War 2. The Resor burned for hours afterwards with fire spread by leaking cargo oil. The only survivors, Seaman John Forsdal, and Coxwain Daniel Hey, are seen in the Coast Guard Station dining room following their rescue.

Kuomintang (KMT) Chinese Air Force airplanes drop bombs on Japanese positions in valley near Salween River. U.S.Army Air Forces C-47 aircraft of the Air Transport Command's India-China Wing, airdrop military supplies to elements of the KMT army. U.S. military advisors (plus two pet dogs) help the Chinese to retrieve the airdropped supplies. They load mortar tubes and munitions on the shoulders of Chinese soldiers, who are also seen fastening loads on the backs of mules. The Chinese troops transport the supplies up winding mountainous paths into a destroyed town.
