General Norstad introduces General Henry Arnold to the combat crew of B-29 Superfortress and the commandants who are on their way to Tokyo, Japan after joining the 21st Bomber Command. The General says the 21st Bomber Command has been operating out of China and the crew has the best of the aircraft which could carry the heaviest of loads. One of the crew members writes a message on a bomb as the General dictates. The Generals, the commandants and the crew members beside the cart of the bombs. The General wishes the crew good luck and shakes hands with the commandants. The message on the bomb for the enemy reads 'To the Warlords of Japan, We have not forgotten - The B-29s will remind you again and again and again'.

USAAF B-17 Flying Fortresses drop bombs over Germany during World War II.

View from inside a B-17 of the U.S. 351st Bomb Group, as it arrives over its target in Germany during World War 2. Smoke screen set off by defenders is visible streaming across the ground. A lone German fighter makes a final attack through the flak zone and downs a B-17, which is seen falling out of the formation with part of its empennage shot away. The lead B-17 fires a flare signalling start of the bomb run. Control of the aircraft's course is transferred to the bombardier. Bomb bay doors are opened and bombs are seen falling from the B-17s. Bombs fall on waterfront dock areas and on industrial areas. A mix of incendiary and antipersonnel bombs are dropped on adjacent enemy aerodrome. Smoke rising from bomb strikes begins to obscure the targets. As the bombers close their bomb bay doors, to commence return home, they continue to be attacked by Flak.

The formation of B-17s is attacked by German FW-190s and ME-110 fighter planes. B-17 gunners shoot one down. They shoot down two more FW-190s and then an ME-110, which explodes in a ball of fire. An attacking German FW-190 is suddenly intercepted by a British Spitfire over the British Channel, and retreats. Seeing this, crew members in one B-17 begin to sing "Goodnight Sweetheart." Among the B-17s shown in flight, is B-17F, Serial Number 41-24635 (named:"8 Ball Mk II") of the 359th Bomb Squadron, 303rd Bomb Group, stationed at RAF Station Molesworth, England.
