U.S. Air Force F-102A Delta Dagger external wing tank vibration tests at Edwards Air Force Base in California.

U.S. Air Force F-102A Delta Dagger external wing tank vibration tests at Edwards Air Force Base in California. Several men take an external wing tank from the back of a pickup truck and carry it inside of a hangar. An F-102A with its landing gear mounted on spring-supported platforms inside a hangar. Technicians install accelerometers mounted on wooden blocks. The aircraft equipped with external wing fuel tanks undergoes vibration tests. Electro-magnetic shakers are attached to the wing tips of the aircraft with the vibration visible on the nose of the fuel tank during low-frequence oscillation. Three engineers check oscillograph recordings made during the vibration tests. The F-102A, equipped with two external wing tanks painted black and white, in flight. External fuel tank under the left wing. The aircraft flying to the left, jettisons external fuel tank visible beneath the wings of the aircraft. Two technicians install a shaker underneath the wing of an F-102A. A F-102A taking off. F-84F chase plane and F-102A flying to the right. F-102A rolling down the runway after touchdown, nose gear touches down.

MB-1 rocket rail-launched from a U.S. Air Force F-102A Delta Dagger at Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico.

MB-1 rocket rail-launched from a U.S. Air Force F-102A Delta Dagger at Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico. Footage taken from GSAP (Gun Sight Aiming Point) camera mounted under right wing of F- 102 in flight. MB-1 rocket fired from rail launcher. Technicians work on F-102A parked outside a hangar. Two technicians wheel an MB-1 rocket on a dolly, underneath F- 102A parked on ramp. Three technicians check out and calibrate special instrumentation to be used during the test run. The instruments include different types of oscillographs, and photo panels. Special camera installations made on the F-102A vertical stabilizer, fuselage, and wings. Technician installs a l6mm camera inside the aircraft nose, then closes access panel. F-102A takes off. Radar vectoring station T-1 at Holloman AFB. Technician operates one of the tracking scanners installed on roof of building. Two men, inside the vectoring station, control the course of the test aircraft by radio communication from the vectoring machine plotting charts. The pilot in F-102A cockpit as he turns on the recording cameras to activate the armament system. MB-1 bomb extended below the aircraft. Engineer talks on the radio phone inside the vectoring station. Pilot's hand on the control stick as he activates the firing switch. MB-l rocket is fired from the short rail launcher. The aircraft is enveloped in a trail of white smoke. GSAP camera mounted underneath the right wing of the F-102A, shows the MB-l rocket being fired from the short rail launcher. Smoke due to the firing of the rocket.

A U.S. Air Force F-100 Super sabre jet gets trapped in a "sabre dance" and crashes and burns at Edwards Air Force Base

A U.S. Air force F-100 Super sabre jet aircraft rounds out high in nose-high attitude, during attempted emergency landing at Edwards Air Force Base, California. The pilot applies power to go around without success as the F-100 enters a state known as a "Sabre Dance". The aircraft's right wing strikes the runway and it crashes on the runway in a ball of fire. (Note: This F-100 was being ferried from Palmdale, California, when it encountered problems, and the pilot elected to make an emegency landing at Edwards AFB)

U.S. Airmen uncrate an AIM-4 Falcon heat-seeking guided air-to-air missile. Closeup as they remove it from its box. Next, an animated segment shows a fighter interceptor firing such a missile at a high flying bomber. it strikes and destroys the bomber. A Falcon missile on a test stand. It is launched for a short distance and then hits the ground. A brief animated segment illustrates an airborne missile being fired at another airplane, from a fighter aircraft. Glimpse of an Air Force aircraft dropping a parachute delayed bomb. A Convair F-102 Delta Dagger interceptor aircraft parked on a ramp. A MGM-1 Matador Cruise Missile being launched from a test stand. An F-102 interceptor aircraft taking off and in flight. It fires a missile straight ahead. Another F-102 firing a missile in flight, and a target drone tumbling to the ground and exploding. Airmen drive a forklift truck up to a parked F-102 aircraft, and remove a crate containing a Hughes AIM-4 Falcon missile. They remove it and place it in a firing test stand. A suspended net target in the desert is destroyed by a missile passing through it. Air Force mechanics work on an F-102 aircraft. A MGM-1 Matador Cruise Missile being fired.
