The "Antigonish Movement" adult education programs at the St. Francis Xavier University, Nova Scotia.
The "Co-Operation" ideas of Rev. Dr.J.J.Tompkins, of St. Francis Xavier University, Antigonish, Nova Scotia, give rise to programs such as the Adult Education Program of the Extension Department of the University. Adults are seen participating in education program, as they take evening instruction in reading, writing, and basic economics, in a local school classrooms. Another pioneer in the "Antigonish Movement," the Rev. Dr. Hugh MacPherson of St.Francis Xavier University, is seen on a farm, advising local farmers about soil and farming techniques. In a laboratory at the University, he discusses soil chemistry, with several farmers, and shows them the contrast between plants with and without proper soil conditions. African American woman who is an agent from the Tuskegee Movable School demonstrates various household and service skills to other women. The teacher demonstrates a fire-less cooker as women gather around her. She also shows dressing of wounds and cleaning and washing a child, as the baby cries. She demonstrates how to make fly paper. Women and men clean and mend beds and furniture under their guidance. A woman learns shoe shine skills and practices cleaning and polishing shoes. (Note: The female extension agents shown likely include Rosa B. Jones, Uva Mae Hester, or N. Juanita Coleman)

He takes a pen and signs the bill. Then he addresses the gathering. “No economic system anywhere has ever had the success of the American economy. By placing maximum reliance on the initiative and the creative energies of individual businessmen and workers, we have created here in our land the most prosperous nation in the history of the world.” President Johnson remarked on his speech upon signing the Tax Bill.
