During a training program the sailors of the British Navy are taught three defense methods against an attacker armed with a knife. Two sailors demonstrate the methods. A navy officer and other sailors observe. The sailor who poses as the opponent moves forward with a knife in his right hand. The second sailor brings his left arm forward to protect himself. In the second case the opponent moves forward again passing the knife from one hand to another. The sailor removes his helmet and uses it as a shield. To demonstrate the third way, the opponent again approaches with the knife raised in his hand. The sailor uses the edge of his arm to protect himself and delivers a chin jab. (World War II period).

Using a cord the other sailor secures the thumbs at the back, one at a time. The sailor bends the right leg of the opponent and places the ankle of this leg behind the knee of the left leg. Then he lifts the left leg up and secures this leg and the thumbs together. A Navy officer. Other sailors and officers look carefully. The sailor ties the wrists one at a time and secures them to the legs after arranging the legs as done earlier. He passes the rope around the opponent's neck. The opponent all tied up on the ground. The sailor turns the opponent face down on the ground and sits on his back facing towards the opponent's legs. He arranges the leg as done earlier, lifts the left leg and pulls at it.
