Clip opens with 8 October, 1952 scenes from the aftermath of the Harrow and Wealdstone railroad train crash in England, where the collision of a Scottish Express train and a commuter train, followed by another express train, killed 200 people outside of London, England. Destroyed British railway trains on the track. Rescue operations carried out. Injured carried away for medical help on litters. Scene changes to coast of England in early January 1952, as the United States freighter ship Flying Enterprise (formerly the SS Cape Kumukaki) founders to one side while underway in rough seas. The ship had battled to stay afloat for 8 days following structural damage and then shifting cargo. Captain of the ship Kurt Carlsen is honored at a ceremony for putting up a brave fight for eight days trying to get the ship to port across the rough sea.
Germany surrenders in World War II. British soldiers and citizens loaded in a horse drawn carriage ride down a street in London and wave during celebrations on news of German surrender that day. A man selling the May 7, 1945 London newspaper "The Evening News" with headline "Germany Surrenders". A number of men and women buy newspapers from him. Allied soldiers in a jeep with American flag on it. They shake hands. Men and women march down a road with a British flag as they celebrate Allied victory in Europe during World War II. They are also rolling a statue on a cart. Happy British citizens celebrate VE Day.

Charles de Gaulle, 75008 Paris, France) in Paris, France on 'Victory in Europe Day'. American soldiers walk by the tomb. Crowds carrying Allied flags parade in streets. People hold French flag as they sing the national anthem. (World War II period).
The Greek ferry, 'Heraklion', en-route from Crete to Athen's Port, Piraeus, is sunk in the Aegean Sea during a fierce storm in which a truck reportedly broke loose and battered open her midship loading door, causing her to sink within 15 minutes. Search and rescue operations carried out from air and in water, the day after her sinking. . Rescue boats underway at the scene. Man wearing radio headset, looks from the window of a scout plane and throws out a flare to mark the location. Scattered debris on water. Sailors carry causalities on stretcher. Causalities put into ambulance. 235 passengers are reported dead or missing and only 49 managed to survive the tragedy. (Note : The USS Belknap (DLG-26) and the USS Columbus (CG-12) participated in the search for survivors but found none. The Belknap retrieved some remains that were transferred to Greek authorities, the next day.) (Additional note: Some music at start of this newsreel, but no other sound or narrative.)

U.S. President John F. Kennedy addresses the graduates and the spectators from a dais. 493 cadets graduate. The graduates come up on the dais and shake hands with the President. The cadets fly their hats in the air. A board in Annapolis reads 'United States Naval Academy'. 871 graduates are seated during the graduation ceremony. They walk up on a stage and are presented graduation certificates by U.S. Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson. The anchorman, who is the last one to get the certificate, is cheered by his fellows.
