A large number of mariners and citizens gather at a ceremony outside the Federal Hall Sub-Treasury building on Wall Street in New York City to pay tribute to Maritime service. Widow of Albert Fentris being presented the Mariners medal at the ceremony. A wreath is cast in the sea to commemorate dead heroes. U.S. Merchant Marine sailors train and parade in a ceremony at the U. S. Maritime Service Training Station facility at Sheepshead Bay, New York.

Senator John F. Kennedy speaks at Democratic National Convention at the International Amphitheater (4220 South Halsted Street Chicago, Illinois 60609 United States) in Chicago, Illinois. He appeals to the people to nominate Estes Kefauver unanimously as Democratic Vice-Presidential candidate. Kefauver is nominated as Vice Presidential candidate as he appears on the dais and waves to the crowd.
German troops fight house to house against Allied (mostly British) forces in Arnhem Netherlands during World War 2
During Operation Market Garden, German soldiers move forward on foot and on bicycles in Arnhem and other areas of Netherlands during World War II. German infantry find abandoned American and British equipment. They open a cigarette tin from their findings, share cigarettes all around, smoking and smiling. German infantry, including some very young German soldiers march along a roadway. House to house fighting between British and German forces in Dutch towns and villages of Arnhem region. Germans take British and American soldiers as prisoners and search them thoroughly. Allied POWs are marched between locations and guarded at roadsides, including near a building with sign that says "Maarland" on it (likely hamlet of Maarland, or present day Oost-Maarland). Near end of clip German narrator references Operation Berlin withdrawal and rescue effort being conducted by Allies to try to remove remaining Allied forces from the region.
Commercial passengers fly Stout Airlines from Detroit Michigan to Cleveland.Ohio
Opening slate refers to developing scope of commercial air operations in late 1920s. A bus parks at the Detroit office of Stout Airlines at Ford Airport, Detroit, Michigan. Passengers leave the bus and enter the office to obtain tickets for a flight to Cleveland. They are nicely dressed in the fashion of the day, men in suites and ties and women in Cloche hats.. Many spectators stand behind a fence at the airport to watch the activities. Passengers leave the office and head toward a parked Ford Tri-motor passenger plane parked on the ramp. One woman is accompanied by three small boys. Next, a man is seen passing the passengers' luggage through the plane's entrance door to a male steward inside. Scene shifts to the uniformed steward loading the baggage into large overhead bins in the roof of the passenger compartment. He closes and secures the storage bins and then heads outside the plane where he assists passengers in boarding. He climbs aboard. The aircraft is then seen taxiing toward the runway for takeoff. As it passes the camera, a sign painted on its side is visible reading: "Stout Airlines, Detroit-Cleveland" (and Chicago added below). (Note: they did not operate to Chicago until 1929) The aircraft takes off heading close to the camera, near its lift off point, and heads off into the sky.Scene shifts to inside the passenger cabin where the passengers (unrestricted by seat belts) chat with one another as the cabin steward watches over them from the front of the cabin. German tricolor flags and some Nazi flags displayed from apartment windows, with Vestner Tower in background. Views from boat (unseen) moving along the River Pegnitz, showing apartment building with many Nazi flags displayed, and charming old homes along the river banks. The boat passes the Museum bridge and camera focuses on lower structure carrying inscriptions praising Emperor Leopold I and King Joseph I. As boat continues camera points to Nazi flags fluttering from buildings along the river banks. The twin towers of Sebalduskirche (Saint Sebaldus Church) are seen, followed by camera panning over tops of many rows of tents meticulously aligned at a Hitler Youth camp. Gradually the camp becomes filled with Youth as the morning progresses. Closeup of boys in a drum line, playing, as others sound long trumpets. Youth getting up and preparing for the days activities. Closeup of one shining his shoes, and of others shaving and getting washed and groomed. They engage in some hijinks too, with a water hose. Later, on a field, some are seen pulling a large wagon of firewood, unloading it, and placing the logs into a furnace to heat huge cauldrons and other things at an outdoor field kitchen. Views from inside the kitchen. Cooks stirring contents of the cauldrons. One tastes approvingly. Sausages being readied for cooking. Food being dispensed to the campers who enjoy eating. Next, a crowd of boys watches as two engage in a bare-fisted boxing match. Others compete in field games of various kinds. One camper writing a letter home, inside a tent. Outside boys compete in horse and rider wrestling competitions. Closeups of boys laughing. The final scenes show campers giving one boy a high blanket toss.
