Communist National Day Celebrations in Beijing, China, celebrating the People's Republic of China. A large crowd of Red Guards gathered at Tianamen Square for the Communist National Day Celebrations. The celebrants sing under direction of several leaders who direct simultaneously. They each wave Chairman Mao's "Little Red Book" (sometimes called the Mao bible) and chant. Mao Tse Tung (or Zedong) is pictured on building in the background. Cheerleaders can be heard leading group cheers. Chanting groups of people parade in various parts of the huge square. One large group marches with their arms linked to one another. They shout slogans against the "USA."

Army Engineers of the American Expeditionary Forces (AEF) use a rail-mounted conveyer-type bucket dredge to deepen a channel for Allied ships on the Penfeld River at Brest, France, during World War 1. In the background, the Kerguillo mansion in the suburb Bohars, can be seen. The dreged spoils are being emptied into a string of open rail cars.
