Allies continue push across Normandy in summer of 1944, during World war II
One month after D-Day, Allied forces continue advances across Normandy,France. German General and high ranking staff surrender to U.S. Major General Lawton Collins. U.S. artillery pounds German positions. On shell has 'Happy 4th Adolph' written on it. General Eisenhower greets and American soldier in the field, as Lieutenant General Omar Bradley, stands nearby. Church bells ring and French population celebrates Bastille Day (July 14th). American soldiers join in dancing at a town square during the celebrations. U.S, troops march along a road, one wearing a bowler hat. U.S. troops, firing machine guns, mortars, and recoiless rifles engage the Wehrmacht 352nd Division and other German defenders in costly battles amongst the hedgerows of Normandy. On Election Day, November 7, 1944, in World War 2, Americans are seen waiting patiently to vote. They stand in a long line extending down a city sidewalk next to brick and stone buildings. On November 7, 1944, during World War 2, citizens of Marblehead, Massachusetts, United States, are seen entering the Old Town House (built in 1727) to cast ballots in 40th quadrennial presidential election (in which incumbent President Franklin D. Roosevelt is running for an unprecedented 3th term). Scene shifts to inside a polling place, where voters stand in booths to privately mark their ballots. Others are seen depositing their marked, folded paper ballots in a collection box, as they finish voting. Closeups of several aged voters.
