Toronto Police War Veterans Association "Church Parade" and ceremony honoring fallen of World War I
Toronto Policemen participate in annual "Church Parade" to honor fallen from World War 1. The Police Pipe Band leads the parade past the City Hall Branch of the Dominion Bank, at Queen and Bay Streets. They are followed by uniformed policemen wearing white gloves.The Pipe band continues along tree-lined section of street. Police official on horseback leads the uniformed police officers. A contingent of mounted police take part in the parade. An elderly man in Police uniform stands with three elderly officials, in top hats, in front of the Toronto City Hall, where members of another police band in uniform, stand, at ease, conversing. Spectators are gathered under a flagpole. A Color Guard of police officers stands at attention. The four elderly gentlemen are assisted in placing a floral wreath at the base of the World War I memorial at the City Hall. Inscription: "To Our Glorious Dead" is seen on the monument. The four men stand as the police band plays music.
Japanese Prisoners of War at Peleliu Island, Palau, during World War II
Wounded Japanese prisoners of war on litters and ambulatory and uninjured POWs at a makeshift barbed wire enclosure on Paleliu, during World War II. Eisenhower, and a U.S. Major General, walk through a liberated German concentration camp, followed by numerous other officers. The grounds are strewn with bodies of emaciated dead prisoners. Hospital Ship, Atlantis, carrying exchange wounded Allied Prisoners of War back to England In World War II
In the first exchange of Allied and Axis wounded prisoners of war, the British Hospital Ship, Atlantis, with number 33 painted on her side, steams into port, at Leith, Scotland, (and then on to Liverpool, England) during World War 2. She is returning Allied wounded from Germany, by way of Goeteborg, Sweden. British soldiers are carried off ship on stretchers. Several ambulatory American soldiers leave ship on foot. Railroad train seen right at the port.

People come out from the Henebry's Jewelers and supermarket, among stores setup to meet the needs of the quickly built city. Scenes changes to show view of Soviet leader Joseph Stalin at conference. Russian artillery and troops in a parade at Red Square in Moscow, Russia (these parade scenes are from the May 1, 1945 May Day parade, just days before Germany's surrender). President Harry Truman reports on the latest developments regarding the war with Japan. He states that the United States is prepared to destroy every productive enterprise in Japan and the U.S. shall completely destroy its power to make war. He warns of an attack by the U.S. due to the rejection of the July 26th ultimatum at Potsdam. He warns that Japan "should expect a rain of ruin from the air; the like of which has never been seen on this earth." Truman notes that it will be followed by an unprecedented sea and land invasion of Japan.
