Conditions in China in 1927-28. A large crowd of people is assembled outdoors, in Shanghai, China. Several display Chinese Nationalist Party (Kuomintang) flags. Next, the people are seen scrambling for pamphlets that are being thrown into their midst. Camera pans across the crowd, revealing that they are assembled near a waterfront pier on the Huangpu River, where a number of ships are docked. Closeup of the pier shows men carrying cargo and packages through the crowd. Scene shifts to two men apparently distributing literature from a truck, and a crowd (mob) of people pushing into an official-looking building. Next, a contingent of armed Chinese sailors marches through the throng. They pass by the people crammed into the doorway of the official-looking building, paying no attention to them. More armed Chinese military march through the area. Views of people jammed into the streets. A line of armed British soldiers is seen trying to control a crowd (probably near the International Settlement). They push the demonstrators back. Scene shifts to a group of Chinese men seated on the ground, eating bread. someone gives one of them a small tin box that he attempts to pry open.

Madrid fortifies and civilians evacuate during the Spanish Civil War

Then camera focuses on statues of Don Quixote and Sancho Panza on the memorial to author, Cervantes, by sculptor Lorenzo Coullaut Valera, on the Plaza Espana, in Madrid. Next is shown a building partially destroyed by bomb shelling. Citizens of Madrid are seen working to place protective walls around important monuments and buildings in the city. Masons work on the reinforcing walls, while citizens are seen busily going about their affairs in background. Several soldiers march into a guarded fortified area. A truck drives on a street, past a woman and small children sitting on some rubble. A streetcar moves along a street along with a horse-drawn covered wagon, and pedestrians, making their way past a long masonry protective wall. Two armed Republican soldiers ride on the roof of a bus. A Red Cross flag hangs beneath a Metro sign, above steps leading down into the subway. A long line of people waiting to buy vegetables at a small store. Masking tape crisscrossing the window of a shop to help proctect it. A Red Cross car displaying white flag rushes down empty street toward place where smoke is rising from rebel shelling. Another scene shows civilians running and one falling during a shelling attack. A shell explodes near the camera with black smoke billowing. The Red Cross car rushes to another location. City dwellers walk about near rubble from shelling. Boys look for shell fragments in the rubble. A woman holding a baby runs for cover. Another shell explodes nearby. Two civilians lie where they have fallen, victims of the shelling. Spanish village suffers from German bombing during Spanish Civil War.

View of sleepy village in Spanish hills. A Woman comes out of her house with a basket of food. An airplane is heard in skies above and someone shouts "aviación," and it echoes down the hill. Three airplanes are seen in formation overhead, followed by two more. The planes maneuver. Filmed closeup of explosions is followed by scenes of smoke rising in a village and people walking about in despair. Villagers in an alleyway look at rubble from a bombing. Two women and a baby look out through a hole blasted in the side of a house. Villagers gather near a large house with windows hattered and roof destroyed. They sadly walk past four dead bombing victims laid out at near the site including one young boy. Narrator states that three Junker planes did this. Interior view of roof destroyed in the house. View through hole in wall of the house, showing villagers outside mourning the two victims. Building exterior pockmarked by gunfire and scrapnel. Two little boys wearing army hats, pose for the camera, in front of the building, while another sits near a soldier cleaning his rifle. The boys are seen playing in rubble in front of the building. Scene shifts to a dogfight overhead, between two airplanes. One,that appears to be a Nationalist Fiat CR.32 biplane, is shot down and spirals to crash on the ground. Scene shifts, again, to Republican soldiers and local people looking through jumbled pieces of a downed Junkers plane spread over a large crash site. Seen, are a tail wheel and corrugated metal section, identifying the wreckage as that of a large German Junkers Ju-52 trimotor aircraft (clearly unrelated to the earlier dogfight scene).A placard is shown with data about the Junkers aircraft parts.
