In final days of World War 1, October, 1918, Italian troops are seen proceeding against Austro-Hungarian forces. The Italians advance and employ a large searchlight over the trenches at night. Shells burst above the battlefield. After Austria requested an armistice (signed on November 3rd) Austrian troops are seen surrendering in large numbers and assembling in open areas. Meanwhile, Italian troops enter the city of Trento in the Alps mountain range.
Italian cavalry enter Fiume, after Austro-Hungarian troops abandon it during World War 1. Mounted cavalry sound bugles as they proceed into the city. Local people seem excited. Kingdom of Italy flags are displayed. Many women carry flowers, and the scene is celebratory.
