Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) soldiers and officers march in New York for Memorial Day parade, together with veterans of World War 1 and other American conflicts. Robert Moses,controversial visionary urban planner of bridges, highways, and worlds fairs, inter alia, for New York City, from the 1920s through about the 1960s. He is seen at a desk in his office, wearing shirt and tie, but no jacket. A large map of Greater New York, including New Jersey and Long Island, is on the wall behind him. He makes and receives telephone calls. Scene shifts to another office, where he appears wearing a jacket. He reviews papers containing planning ideas including sketches. Mr. Moses annotates some of the documents.

Flatbed car carrier truck parked on side of road with several new Ford automobiles on it. Two women leave their house, sit in a car and drive away. Cars, trucks, buses and a horse cart on a road. An early Greyhound Bus bound for Washington approaches on a highway. A late 1920's or early 1930's automobile passes a horse driven cart at high speed.

A police patrolman notices a moving violation by a motorist and gets on his motorcycle to pursue. The police officer pulls over the motorist and is seen writing a ticket for the woman driver in the car. A police officer on foot stands at a busy intersection and gives hand commands to control traffic at a bend on highway. Winter time views show a a big snow plow as it removes snow from highways during winters. Many 1920's and 1930's automobiles, including cars, trucks, and buses are seen on American roads and highways. A car passes on a bridge. Cars drive on a four lane. Next scene shows the Statue of Liberty as seen up close from an approaching boat. Final scene shows Bandmaster and United States Marine Corps band as they play. The conductor turns and takes a bow.
Commercial passengers fly Stout Airlines from Detroit Michigan to Cleveland.Ohio
Opening slate refers to developing scope of commercial air operations in late 1920s. A bus parks at the Detroit office of Stout Airlines at Ford Airport, Detroit, Michigan. Passengers leave the bus and enter the office to obtain tickets for a flight to Cleveland. They are nicely dressed in the fashion of the day, men in suites and ties and women in Cloche hats.. Many spectators stand behind a fence at the airport to watch the activities. Passengers leave the office and head toward a parked Ford Tri-motor passenger plane parked on the ramp. One woman is accompanied by three small boys. Next, a man is seen passing the passengers' luggage through the plane's entrance door to a male steward inside. Scene shifts to the uniformed steward loading the baggage into large overhead bins in the roof of the passenger compartment. He closes and secures the storage bins and then heads outside the plane where he assists passengers in boarding. He climbs aboard. The aircraft is then seen taxiing toward the runway for takeoff. As it passes the camera, a sign painted on its side is visible reading: "Stout Airlines, Detroit-Cleveland" (and Chicago added below). (Note: they did not operate to Chicago until 1929) The aircraft takes off heading close to the camera, near its lift off point, and heads off into the sky.Scene shifts to inside the passenger cabin where the passengers (unrestricted by seat belts) chat with one another as the cabin steward watches over them from the front of the cabin. Clip includes early helicopters, early Ornithopters, and Igor Sikorsky piloting VS-300 on May 6, 1941, setting a new record of one hour and thirty two minutes for suspension flight. Scene after Sikorsky helicopter flight shows some experimental aircraft designs, early in the history of flight, including a helicopter design in the 1920s that would not rise, a windmill type airplane, and an airplane design with concentric circle wings. Next is seen an aircraft ornithopter with flapping wings. Scene returns to more shots of Sikorsky in his record breaking helicopter flight.
