The Swedish American ship Gripsholm arrives at New York harbor carrying American soldiers and others exchanged for German prisoners in World War II. 160 were internees at Vittel. Others included American diplomats from Vichy who were being held at Baden-Baden. Soldiers stand on deck and wave as ship is docked at Pier F in Jersey City. The soldiers disembark the ship. The Wounded soldiers. Diplomats and war correspondents talk about the conditions of Germany as it is losing the war. Douglas MacArthur (nephew of General Douglas MacArthur) is seen with a dog as he arrives. Ralph E. Heinzen of the United Press describes conditions in Germany and stresses that Germany is losing the war.

He questions a prisoner on what do they think about American soldiers and how did they get this compound. The prisoner answers his questions and shows his U.S. pass, a leaflet which allowed him to cross the line by safety. (World War II period).

F-84 Thunderjet aircraft taxis and turns. A pilot in cockpit. Tests are conducted on the damage to a J-35 jet engine from ingesting one small metal bolt. Slow-motion images of engine destruction with smoke and fire caused by the bolt getting into the engine works. Technicians examine pieces of the destroyed engine. They determine the importance of air inlet screens that protect the engine on the ground, but retract for maximum power during flight. A technician fits air inlet screens onto the engine of an aircraft.
