Exploits of the German Auxiliary Cruiser Thor in the Pacific Ocean during World War II
The German Auxiliary Cruiser "Thor" (Schiff 10) seeking Allied shipping targets of opportunity in the Pacific during World War 2. German Navy sailors relax on her deck. Some paint her motor launch. Several sailors in white trousers, dark jackets, and white side caps, hurry into formation where they are inspected by supervisor wearing a checkered necktie. Officers in Khaki look through binoculars as the Thors' Arado 196 float plane lands and taxis in, guided by sailor with signal flags. The pilot (possibly Flying Officer Meyer-Ahrens) is standing up in the cockpit. He reports to the bridge and exchanges salutes with Thor Captain, Kapitan-sur-Zee Günther Gumprich. Pilot discusses his flight observations with other officers. Smoke from a steaming ship seen on the horizon. An officer on the deck lights a cigar. Smoke and sound of Thor firing her 15cm deck guns. Rocket research and development work carried on by Richard Tiling, in Germany, after death of his brother, Reinhold Tiling
Following his death in 1933, Reinhold Tiling's work on rocketry was carried forward by his brother, Richard, who successfully worked on perfecting projectile missiles,and especially on improving the explosion safety of propellants, during 1934. A photograph of several rockets is shown, followed by a series of animated design sketches. Slate refers to Swirl nozzle provided with rotating projectile in describing one sketch. Another is described as Richard Tiling's design of Projectile missiles to shoot down aircraft. The invasion and siege of Warsaw, Poland by German forces during World War II
The German viewpoint of events during the Polish Campaign in Warsaw, Poland, during World War 2. Ostensibly to spare Warsaw from destruction, German radio operator soldiers wearing headphones, in a mobile communications center, issue an ultimatum from the German High Command, to the Commander of the city of Warsaw, demanding capitulation of defending forces within 12 hours. A German Junkers Ju-52 trimotor transport aircraft parked at a small airport. The aircraft takes off (to disperse handbills with this message.) A German Dornier DO-17 bomber takes off. Next, a German checkpoint is seen clogged with vehicles amd persons attempting to leave the city. Narrator states that only 870 members of the Diplomatic Corps and 1200 foreigners elected to leave. They are seen departing along a road set aside for that purpose by the German High Command. German officers supervise their departure. One, carrying Japanese envoys or diplomatic delegation, bears a large Japanese flag on its roof. Next, the siege of Warsaw begins, with German gunners loading and firing a 305mm siege mortar.
