Allied invasion of Normandy France, during World War 2. About 15 German prisoners with hands on their heads, are lined up under guard on a sandy beach area, behind barbed wire, where they are being searched, one-by-one, by an American military policeman. Suddenly, they drop to the ground, as a low flying airplane passes overhead (unseen). They get back on their feet again. Next, a burning army truck is seen with a dead soldier lying nearby. (He wears an armband and is likely a medic.) American soldiers wade ashore from a landing craft tank (LCT) through surf, at what appears to be low tide. Another LCT (#587) is beached nearby. Larger landing ships are seen further offshore.
German disguised surface raider sinks British ship with gunfire, in Indian Ocean, and rescues survivors in World War II
German Naval war ensign displayed on an Auxiliary Cruiser (armed surface raider disguised as commercial ship) during World War 2. Crew members with binoculars observe a British commercial vessel in the Indian Ocean and signal her to stop. They fire a warning shot from one of the cruiser's 150mm guns. Crew and passengers abandon their ship and make their way in lifeboats to the German cruiser. One of the lifeboats is partially filled with water. Others arrive at the side of the cruiser where their occupants, including many civilian passengers, are brought aboard the cruiser, which continues firing at the abandoned ship with a 15cm L/45 C13 gun. Closeups of the British ship from the cruiser, show a single defensive gun mounted on her top deck. Smoke rises from earlier shelling. Next, the abandoned ship is seen settling and burning. Finally she settles below the water and pitches forward, to sink with her stern pointed straight up as she plunges below the waves.
