First scene shows the State Capitol building (350 State St, Salt Lake City, UT 84103) in Salt Lake City, Utah. Next a sign identifies a military separation center in Fort Douglas during post-war demobilization. Soldiers in uniform are being processed for separation from the U.S. Army. A sergeant salutes an officer and receives his discharge papers. Narrator identifies Corporal Kirk being processed by a sergeant. He later salutes and receives his discharge papers. Corporal Kirk steps down the stairs from a house, arm and arm with his girlfriend. They are seen enjoying a soda together. Next, they shop together for a civilian hat for him. Then they share shopping for a complete civilian wardrobe. They share time skiing together. Glimpse of some national parks in Utah and of the great Salt Lake. Major Glenn Miller and his Army Air Corps band play "In the Mood," for large gathering of airmen during 8th Air Force War Bond rally, at Wycombe Abbey, High Wycombe in England on July 29th 1944, during World War 2. The airmen and spectators applaud enthusiastically. The band then plays "Stardust. Glenn Miller introduces his string section that includes classical musicians, who have played with orchestras such as the New York Philharmonic, Boston Symphony, Cleveland Orchestra, and The Philadelphia Orchestra under Leopold Stokowski. The group is headed by Sergeant George Otners, whom Miller introduces, along with the String Section. Major Miller introduces the Saxaphone Section, headed by Sergeant Hank Freeman, who formerly played with the Artie Shaw band. Miller also introduces Sergeant Albert, his bass player.

Two British officials leave 10 Downing Street following a meeting of Prime Minister Chamberlain's War Cabinet. The Silhouette of them is seen as they pass through an archway.
