Demonstrators fill streets in Manhattan, expressing anger over unemployment and lack of public assistance during the Depression
Huge crowd of people fills New York City street during the Great Depression, in 1930. Some carry signs reflecting economic woes. One reads:"$25.00 a week for UNEMPLOYED."Others read: "No work, No rent;" "Down with Vagrancy Laws;" and "Join Unemployees Council." Scene shifts to Police arriving and arresting a woman and a man whom they escort into a Paddy Wagon. Police advance toward group of demonstrators, outside City Hall, holding signs. One reads: "Vote Communist." Another reads: "Food and Clothing for Unemployed," and one reads:"Fight the Speed UP SYSTEM." One reads: "We demand unemployment insurance."Several women are in the group, which retreats as the police move toward them. One man is lifted by others, above the group, in front of an entrance to the City Court. He stands on rung of an iron fence by the sidewalk. Defiant demonstrators exchange words with police officer. More signs are seen reading: "Down with Fake Employment Agencies" and "Down with Police Brutality." The crowd moves along, some taunting the policemen as they pass. A phalanx of several policemen press against the demonstrators. A woman, with a sign, falls to the ground and another helps her up. Scene shifts to an intersection of Manhattan streets, completely blocked in all directions by cars and demonstrators.

Theodore Cuyler Streibert , Director of the U.S. Information Agency, speaks on the purposes of the Agency (USIS). The Director seated at a table. He states that there is much misunderstanding about the United States, throughout the world, and Communist entities wish to take advantage of this to spread misinformation about the U.S. As the leading world power for peace, he says the U.S. must tell the world the truth about America. This is the mission of the USIA. A map portrays Soviet dominated areas within the so-called "iron curtain,"encompassing 800 million people. Another map illustrates targets of Communist propaganda employed to facilitate North Korea's aggression against South Korea. A graph illustrates propaganda spending by the Soviet Union and Communist China, primarily to spread misinformation about America. Segments of a Soviet propaganda film about the U.S. are shown. It begins with a map of the U.S. and then shows the Statue of Liberty. Camera pans over Manhattan, showing skyscrapers. A narrator disparages American commercialism, materialism and sensationalism. U.S. President Lyndon B Johnson meets with Soviet Premier Alexey Kosigin for the Glassboro Summit Conference in Glassboro, New Jersey. President Johnson with Secretary of State Dean Rusk and Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara wait for Kosygin at the Hollybush Mansion. The Soviet Premier arrives for the first summit talks. He is accompanied by the Soviet Foreign Minister Andrey Gromyko and Soviet Ambassador to the U.S. Anatoly Dpbrynin. The U.S. and Soviet officials greet each other. The press present at the event. Fire consumes large North German Lloyd ocean liner Munchen (later Steuben) docked in New York Harbor, New York City
Clear aerial views of midtown and lower Manhattan, New York City 1930, but with smoke coming from Hudson River pier of New York Harbor where the North German Lloyd liner Munchen (sometimes Muenchen or München) is seen on fire, shortly after docking in New York after the voyage from Bremen, Germany. Ship emits smoke and fire at the pier. Firefighters spray water to extinguish fire. She was raised later in 1930, repaired in dry dock, and returned to service under the new name SS General von Steuben. The ship was sunk in 1945 by the S-13 submarine of the Soviet Union.
