(Note: The race was expected to feature the much-anticipated meeting of Seabiscuit and War Admiral, but Seabiscuit is scratched due to an injury just minutes before the race is scheduled to take place, much to the dismay of the record crowd that had gathered. War Admiral finished fourth in this race. This would help set the stage for the famed match race between the two champions that is ultimately held at Pimlico in Baltimore, MD later that year.)
