Scenes containing sunrise and nature, Genesis reading by the crew of the NASA Apollo 8 Mission

Various scenes of sunrise and nature with reading of verses from book of Genesis in the bible by the crew of the Apollo 8 Mission. Clouds pass over during an impending sunrise. The sun rises. Astronaut Bill Anders reads “We are now approaching lunar sunrise, and for all the people back on Earth, the crew of Apollo 8 has a message that we would like to send to you. In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness”. “And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.” Says Jim Lovell. Sunrise by a lake. Apollo launch site during sunrise.

NASA researcher tests a peroxide-powered EVA control backpack with spraying water jets

A NASA researcher tests an extravehicular activity (EVA) control under the Lunar Landing Research Facility's gantry at NASA’s Langley Research Center. NASA researcher wears a yellow spacesuit while testing the extravehicular activity (EVA) control backpack using water jets (powered by peroxide). NASA researcher hanging sideways, standing on blue slant board of the gantry. Harnesses are attached on the NASA researcher for safety. NASA researcher jumps forward and moves backwards. View of trees and forest. Water jets propel the backpack of the NASA researcher. NASA researcher moves using an EVA control backpack with jets spraying water.

NASA researcher demonstrates use of peroxide-powered EVA control backpack with water jets

A NASA researcher tests an extravehicular activity (EVA) control under the Lunar Landing Research Facility's gantry at NASA’s Langley Research Center. A man holds the harness that supports the NASA researcher. NASA researcher wears a yellow spacesuit while testing the extravehicular activity (EVA) control backpack using water jets powered by peroxide. NASA researcher hanging sideways, standing on blue slant board of the gantry. Researcher starts his EVA control backpack. EVA control backpack’s jet sprays water to propel the NASA researcher. Researcher walks a few steps before jumping backwards. NASA researcher demonstrates movement with EVA control backpack with water jets powered by peroxide, simulating “moon walks”. NASA researchers conduct experiment as early research into extravehicular activity (EVA) transport on the moon.

NASA staff fix peroxide-powered EVA control backpack at NASA’s Langley Research Center

A NASA researcher tests an extravehicular activity (EVA) control under the Lunar Landing Research Facility's gantry at NASA’s Langley Research Center. A peroxide-powered EVA control backpack hanging sideways near a slant board. Two NASA staff assist a researcher wearing a yellow space suit into the EVA control backpack. A man fixes the backpack while another looks on. Both men standing on a puddle. Men checks the feet of the researcher, goes back to fix the backpack.

NASA researchers testing a peroxide-powered EVA control backpack and a Bell Pogo

A NASA researcher tests an extravehicular activity (EVA) control under the Lunar Landing Research Facility's gantry at NASA’s Langley Research Center. A researcher operates a peroxide-powered EVA control backpack hanging sideways near a slant board. NASA researcher wears a yellow spacesuit during the testing. EVA control backpack’s jet sprays water to propel the NASA researcher. Researcher leaping, simulating “moon-walks”. Scientists in white jumpsuits hold harnesses supporting the researcher jumping on the slant board. Water jets are sprayed from the backpack. Another NASA researcher tests the experimental rocket vehicle “Bell Pogo”. NASA researchers conduct experiment as early research into extravehicular activity (EVA) transport on the moon.

Apollo Lunar Landing Research Vehicle (LLVR) crashes at Ellington Field Joint Reserve Base

A Lunar Landing Research Vehicle (LLVR) crashes at Ellington Field Joint Reserve Base during an Apollo mission test. LLRV Lunar Landing research vehicle slowly descends from the sky. The LLVR-1 starts to ascend a few feet from the ground. The LLRV begins to move to the right. LLVR slightly tilts in flight. LLRV malfunctions and explodes in flight. Astronaut Neil Armstrong parachuting to safety after ejecting from the LLRV moments before it crashed. LLRV debris crash into Ellington AFB. LLRV-1 burning after crashing on the ground. The LLVR-1 malfunctioned from a loss of helium pressure caused depletion of the hydrogen peroxide used for the reserve attitude thrusters.
