Late wave of German men recruited for Volkssturm and receiving uniforms and weapons in Germany, late in World War 2.

They ascend the gallows and final charges and sentence are read to Gierens. Next scene shows bodies stacked up at the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp operated by Nazi Germany. (Notes: Regarding the execution of Gierens in the opening scene: German civilian Matthias Gierens was a 37 year old railroad worker. He was executed for the August 15, 1944, murder near Priest, Germany, of a downed American airman, who was later identified as U.S. Army Air Forces 2nd Lieutenant Lester E. Reuss. Gierens and three other German civilians, Peter Kohn, Peter Back, and Matthias Krein, were convicted on June 2, 1945 in Ahrweiler, Germany, of the murder. Their trial was the first Allied trial in Germany of civilians charged with a war crime.)
Inspection Trip by French General Charles de Gaulle, at end of World War II
President of the Provisional Government of the French Republic Charles de Gaulle makes inspection trip through the country at end of World War 2. Crowds line the sidewalks waving French flags. A Free-French tank named: "L'Audacieux." Numerous destroyed and damaged buildings and rubble lining the streets where his motorcade proceeds. At one stop, he is greeted by an honor guard of Colonial troops. His motorcade passes through a section of the Maginot line where rows of anti-tank dragon's teeth appear intact. At entry of one town a welcoming banner across the road reads: "Soyez Les Bienvenus." De Gaulle steps from a car near a sidewalk filled with French school girls, accompanied by Nuns, in habit. He shakes hands with some girls dressed in traditional local costumes. More views of destruction and rubble. Only the street is clear and rubble lines the edges. Armored cars and other armor pass through twin gates of a city and proceed down a main street, followed by marching French infantry, as people watch and cheer from sidewalks. A Cadillac automobile carries De Gaulle to a French Naval marina. Sailors present arms and he proceeds down a ramp to a floating dock, where he boards a motor launch that takes him along a river. More scenes of cheering French crowds.

Returning Heroes Day, June 4, 1945, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania during World War II. Officials and soldiers in a celebration arranged in honor of U.S. Army Air Force General Carl Andrew Spaatz, and U.S. Army General Omar Nelson Bradley. The Generals on special guest seats with Pennsylvania Governor, Edward Martin and Philadelphia Mayor, Bernard Samuels. An Army Major General sits with them. Soldiers, in a park, fire artillery gun in salute. Civilians shower ticker tape and confetti from the top of a building. They raise American flags. Army guards line the parade route, standing at parade rest with rifles. Policemen on motorbikes escort motorcade.. The Generals sitting with Governor Martin in an open customized jeep.
