Scene shifts to an M-26 Pershing tank being backed into a Landing Ship Tank (LST). It is followed by another, equipped with a sand shield.
Arrival of new cadets with poor physical fitness at Army training academy in the United States. Group of new U.S. Army recruits exit a Greyhound bus, dressed in civilian clothes. Some are white and some are African American. They line up for instructions from a uniformed officer. Drill Sergeant trains the cadets in physical fitness. Cadets do push ups and other exercises for strength and coordination. Cadets march, run and sprint to improve physical fitness. They relax and cool off after the training session.
After the Battle of Tarawa in the Pacific Theater. U.S. Marines wade through a portion of a lagoon towards a pier. LVT (Landing Vehicle Traced) on the beach. Marines build bunkers and put sand bags on the beach. A marine lies in a trench, marines relax, sit and talk. Marines mill about building foxholes and carry supplies on the beach.
