New York Yankees and New York Giants baseball teams train in the north during World War II
The New York Yankees train at Atlantic City New Jersey for the 1944 baseball season, during World War 2. Yankees players, wearing long sleeves, jog around the infield. Manager Joe McCarthy addresses the club. Players warm up with throwing and batting drills. Outfielder Ed Levy (#9) swings in batting cage. Second baseman Stuffy Sternweiss (#2) takes a swing. Manager McCarthy clowns around with movie camera. Action shifts to New York Giants spring training camp in Lakewood, New Jersey. Catcher Gus Mancuso takes part in camera tricks. Manager and Hall of Fame slugger Mel Ott looks over his squad. Shortshop Billy Jurges hits a ground ball. (Note: Spring training for all Major League Baseball clubs was in the north that year because of travel restrictions during World War II.)

Wide-ranging review of U.S. Navy aircraft operational in 1941. Formation of U.S. Navy Douglas SBD Dauntless aircraft in flight. One enters shallow dive and emits smoke as a screen for warships during training exercise. Nine U.S. Navy Douglas TBD Devastator torpedo bombers peel off from echelon formation and dive toward the sea, as the Douglas SBD Dauntless emitting smoke skims over the water. A glimpse of the Aircraft Carrier, USS Enterprise (CV-6) is seen in the background. The TBDs launch their attack under cover of the smoke screen. They drop their torpedoes low over the water and climb out past the USS Enterprise. Her deck is empty. Large formations of U.S. Navy SBD and TBD aircraft fly overhead. TBD and SBD aircraft are seen landing on the Enterprise. Deck crews and signal officers, with paddles, are seen at work. An F4F lands on the flight deck. Deck crews position the aircraft, after landing, and chock their wheels. Plane captains attend to their aircraft, including refueling them. Scene shifts to land base, where mechanics work on various aircraft, including a PBM Mariner flying boat. At TC: 03:13, a U.S. Navy JRS-1 flying boat is seen in flight. (This is a Sikorsky S-43, Baby Clipper. The Navy had about 15, or so, of these, just prior to World War 2.) A mechanic is sitting on the nose of this aircraft performing some task, while in flight. (Clearly, the aircraft is capable of very slow flight.) Next seen is a Navy N3N trainer plane; an SNJ (North American T-6 Texan); Several Consolidated PB2 Coronados; PBY amphibian; Vought Kingfisher;Grumman F4F Wildcat;formation of Douglas TBD Devastators;formation of Douglas SBD Dauntless; and closeup of SBD with canopies open and pilot and rear gunner visible. Excerpt from German propaganda film directed by Hans Bertram, released during World War 2, entitled "Kampfgeschwader Luetzow." Dramatizations feature authentic German aircraft and scenes include: German air attack on British convoy in European Theater during World War II. German officers receive report of bomber strike against British ship and plot results of bombing in headquarters. British crew abandoning burning British transport. Crew in cockpit of German aircraft Heinkel He 111. Formation of British P-36 Mohawk fighter aircraft. they attack the He-111 and hit it with many bullets. German machine gunner fires at P-36. Clouded, horizon in the background. P-36 falls streaming smoke. Another P-36 attacks and kills the German bomber pilot. Gunner runs to cockpit and takes control, shooting down the P-36. A third P-36 attacks and disables the bomber's number one engine, which the crew feathers and shuts down. The He-111 seen flying on number 2 engine only. View of Number one feathered. With bomber in and out of clouds, crewman attempts to keep it straight and level using artificial horizon instrument. U.S. military transport aircraft operating from primitive airfield in the Aleutians during World War II
U.S. military personnel gather around the door of a Navy R4D (Navy DC-3) parked on marsden matting ramp at an airbase in the Aleutian Islands (possibly Adak) during World War 2. Camera shifts attention to U.S. Army P-47E aircraft parked near the runway. Tents are pitched nearby and mountains are in the background. The P-40s display the characteristic yellow propeller spinners of the 11th Pursuit Squadron, “Aleutian Tigers,” but do not display more elaborate tiger markings. Back at the R4D, one of the Navy crew is checking passenger names as they board the aircraft. Next, the R4D transport plane is seen starting number 1 engine (#2 is already running). It takes off raising considerable dust as it gains speed. Its identification number, 4-R-107 is visible below the cockpit. After takeoff, it flies past a nearby mountain and circles back and buzzes the field, flying over the runway at about a thousand feet, as it proceeds on its way
