Troops coming home to America at the end of World War 2. An Army Sergeant just returned from Europe, at the end of World War 2, stands on a pier, beside the troop ship USS General J. C. Breckinridge (AP-176). With him is a woman who wearing a jacket emblazoned with many emblems of U.S. military units. The sergeant places the insignia of the 10th Armored Division on her back. They hug and laugh. Scene shifts completely to 9th Armored Division soldiers at Camp Patrick Henry, Newport News, Virginia, holding the large sign originally placed on the Ludendorff bridge in Germany, by C Company of the 9th Armored Engineer Battalion during the war. It reads:"Cross the Rhine with dry feet, courtesy of 9th Arm'd Div." The soldiers carry the sign past a wooden building at the camp. Change of scene shows Ninth Armored Division troops arriving by train at Camp Patrick Henry. They march in loose order on train platform, with troop transport railroad train pulled into station. The happy soldiers march through a Victory Arch bearing words, "Welcome Home" at an entrance to the camp. More views of the troops marching into Camp Patrick Henry, where the 9th Division is to be deactivated. In the camp grounds, Sergeant reaches into his dufflebag and takes out a small puppy. Film opens showing American soldiers riding in an open tracked personnel carrier, along a road in France, during World War 2. They pass a burning destroyed German tank at the roadside. A U.S. Army truck full of troops and a jeep follow the personnel carrier. Next dragon's teeth tank traps are seen in the snow. A U.S. M10 tank destroyer and a truck are parked near the dragon's teeth. A gunner atop the M10 fires his M2 Browning heavy machine gun. The M10 continues to move past the dragon's teeth. Infantry are seen accompanied by a whitewashed M4A3(76) Sherman tank. Other troops are settled into positions in the snow beside the narrow road. View from behind advancing troops. Explosions in a hillside as shells strike from an M4A3(105) firing rounds. White smoke rising from phosphorous shells fired into a German village. An M4A3(76) tank firing rounds in the village. Sherman medium tanks moving through rubble and then on a town street. Two M4A3(75) tanks parked side-by-side in the town. Tank commander in one points down the street, as hatch in the nearest one begins to open. U.S. infantry moving through the town accompanied by these tanks. Armored infantry hunker down behind a tank as it passes a church building. Some soldiers scamper down a hill toward village wooden buildings. Two are seen escorting a German prisoner, who collapses and has to be helped to his feet. Three other U.S. soldiers are approached by a surrendering German soldier with his hands in the air. Next American soldiers are seen taking several surrendering German soldiers into custody.

Brief views of the flyer’s mother and sister. B-17 taxiing on number 1 and 4 engines (unusual). Several B-17Es taking off. One is Number 41-2524. Others with readable numbers are 41-2611, 41-2632, 41-2648, and 41-2437. Suddenly, several Japanese aircraft are seen in loose trail formation overhead. Marine fires machine gun from a defensive position. Black flak clouds form from exploding U.S. antiaircraft rounds. One Japanese aircraft falls burning toward the sea. Several U.S. Marine Chance-Vought SB2U Vindicator aircraft take off to engage the Japanese bombers. The U.S. aircraft maneuvering overhead. More machine gun fire from defenders on Midway. A bomb explodes close to the camera, sending debris flying. More machine gun fire, and another bomb strikes near the shoreline with a huge explosion. Explosions on other areas of Midway. A hangar burning. Another bomb strike close to the camera. Marines running past burning and destroyed aircraft, and raising the American flag, as fires burned and the bombing continued.
