Paratroopers doing push-ups under supervision. Paratroopers run on a road during training. They jump off from a 34 feet mock tower alone and then in a group of seven. The paratroopers are tied with safety ropes during these jumps. In the next part, paratroopers are trained to jump from a 250 feet tower. Next they jump from plane at a height of 1250 feet. It is then, the men qualify as paratroopers. Paratroopers receive wings during graduation ceremony and are assigned air-borne division. Two officials check documents. Henry Brown, a farmer with his family visits his older son, a cadet of 99th Pursuit Squadron training in Tuskegee Alabama.
Henry Brown and his wife and two children board a horse cart. The horse cart moves, passing fields, trees and stores in Tuskegee, Macon County, including WJ Brantleys grocery market and the Macon Theatre on Northside Street. They reach an Army Air Force Base (Moton Field). Henry's eldest son, a cadet of 99th Pursuit Squadron (Tuskegee Airmen African American fliers in World War 2) receives them. They all move to the aerodrome where planes are parked. Henry's eldest son gets ready for a flight. He enters the cockpit. The plane takes off. The two children wave their hands. Henry and his wife look to the sky.

Glimpse of Central High School, Little Rock, Arkansas, in 1957, with U.S. Army troops posted to protect nine African American students enrolling at the school. Scene shifts to after graduation, when Minnijean Brown, one of the nine, strolls the campus of Southern Illinois University, and speaks of wanting to be a writer. She is seen in the office of a newspaper, where she works as a part time reporter, after school. Brown walks on the college campus with Professor Simon. she bicycles and picnics with friends.

Bell rings and the hall fills with students changing classes, including African American and white students. Scene shifts to Elizabeth Eckford, while a student at Central High, and then to her at Central State College, in Ohio, where she is seen moving about the campus buildings and grounds. Scene flashes back to 1957 where she is seen with others entering Central High, Little Rock, Arkansas, under U.S. Army protection. Scene returns to Central State College, where students stand in a circle and sing their Alma Mater song.
