Bombing of Rama VI bridge in Bangkok, Siam by United States B-24 bomber aircraft (WW2)

United States Consolidated B-24 Liberator bomber aircraft flies over Bangkok in Siam, now Thailand, where river Chao Phraya River passes across the city. Aircraft drops two bombs on both sides of the Rama VI bridge which links the eastern and western banks of the river. Bombs impact and smoke rises. Bangkok is engulfed in a sheet of thick smoke. Aircraft flies over the city. The B-24 drops two more bombs close to the first two targets. Bombs impact and smoke rises upwards. (World War II period).

Testing of AZON or VB1 smart bombs by United States

AZON one of the first smart bombs developed by United States, for destroying narrow railway bridges in Burma, being tested. An AZON marked 62 is dropped much above the surface by United States B -24 Liberator aircraft. The bomb drops and strikes an isolated area and an explosion occurs. AZON is officially designated as VB-1 i.e. vertical bomb which is a guided weapon to maximize damage to target and minimize civilian destruction. Various dimensions of VB-1 being explained like, battery ,gyro stabilizer,radio receiver and antenna. Bomb releases and explosion occurs. (World War II period).

Components of tail of AZON bomb of United States

A scientist installs tail components of AZON. He installs radio receiver unit,gyro stabilizer unit,battery and an antenna. An automatic stabilization check is made on the bomb. Control lever and radio transmitter are tested to move the rudders. Movement of the lever to right and left makes the rudders m move to right and left. A flare is installed in the bomb which ignites after the bomb is away. (World War II period).

United States B-17 bomber aircraft at an air base where AZON bomb is attached to it. An antenna for radio transmitter,compact transmitter and control stick are seen.working on controls. AZON bomb without its tail being attached to the bomber and tail is put after it is shut. A-4 or V-2 missile launched from forest at Heidelager testing range, Poland, during World War II

Camouflaged A-4 missile, also called a V-2 rocket, being launched from a wooded site at Heidelager camp near Blizna, Poland, during World War 2. The V-2 rocket rises, above fire and smoke, and disappears overhead. (Note: These tests proved that a V-2 could be fired from almost anywhere. A few months later, V-2s were being launched against the Allies from similar hidden forested sites in Germany and Holland.)
