Circassians (also known as Cherkas or Cherkess) soldiers are sent by the Russian Empire to fight Ottoman Empire troops during the Caucasus Campaign of World War 1. Wounded Cherkas soldiers, one with his arm in a sling, step onto a sled, aided by a medic. Oxen pull sleds loaded with wounded Cherkas soldiers in the snow. Bactrian camels led by Cherkas infantry carry supplies through a village and in the snowy mountains.
