Japanese natural resources related to Second Sino-Japanese war and World War II
Animated map illustrating shortage of indigenous raw materials in Japan. As stockpiles vanish during Second Sino-Japanese war, Japan's domestic sources supply only 10% of the nation's needs for war. Animated sequence shows lack of steel, aluminum, copper, and power generation for the conduct of war. But one of the nation's greatest resources is the population of skilled Japanese workers, who are shown at various high tech jobs, as well as on the farms and in the fishing industry. Japanese workers are seen who work for the Zaibatsu (four ruling families of Japan). Banks of Japanese women typists and women in a factory. Young women painting faces on a "Kewpie doll." A Japanese family at dinner time. Women engaged in fabric spinning. Animated graphic illustrates Japan's war-related resources for World War 2, by showing a Japanese soldier standing astride map of Japan with lines extending to sources of needed raw materials from Japanese possessions in Korea, Manchuria,Formosa, China,Indochina,Malaya, and its network of Pacific Islands. Final scene displays copy of Los Angeles Times newspaper with headline reading: "Jap Supply Lines Blasted." It also features a story that appears to refer to the U.S. 6th Army invasion of Leyte in the Philippines, in October, 1944 (when General MacArthur waded ashore and stated,"I have returned"). (Note: Although produced during World War 2, this film shows prewar scenes of Japan. The animated illustrations and maps and, of course, the newspaper shown at the end, date from World War II.)

Next scene shows Theodore Roosevelt and the "Rough Riders" (1st United States Volunteer Cavalry) in parade in New York City on return from Cuba after the Spanish-American War in 1898. Next is seen the inauguration parade for President Theodore Roosevelt on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington DC in 1905. Next series of scenes shows American women early in the 20th century. Women workers punching time clock at a factory. Women in dresses emerging from a building perhaps after a work shift circa 1900. An early beauty pageant circa 1910. Famous star actress and singer Lillian Russell in a movie scene. Actor William S Hart appearing in an early movie. Two well dressed women sitting in an early automobile as a man starts it up and drives away. Busy scenes of car and pedestrian traffic, and horse-drawn streetcars on Market street in San Francisco, California circa 1910. Silent movie stars Clara Kimball Young and Sidney Drew together in a movie scene. Rabbi, Lieutenant Leon Rosenberg of the Chaplain Corps, conducts services on March 11 (D-day + 20) for Jewish Marines of the 4th Marine Division, on Iwo Jima, during World War 2. He stands in front of a makeshift altar containing a pair of candles and a cloth displaying the Star of David. He reads aloud from a small book. Marines are seated on the ground in a group. A truck in background drives away as a Marine photographer in background takes a picture of the seated marines. While Chaplain Rosenberg is reading, a jeep and another vehicle drive past in background. After break in sequence, the seated marines are seen with individual prayer books containing Hebrew script. They refer to the books during the service. In final sequence, the Chaplain continues to lead the service, with the marines now standing. (Note: Chaplain L. W. Rosenberg was the first Jewish chaplain to see actual combat with the Marines.. He went overseas with the Fourth Marine Division and was the, only Jewish chaplain to receive the Purple Heart, having been wounded on Tinian, 25 July 1944. Chaplain Rosenberg was in more Marine amphibious landings than any other chaplain. Among these were,assaults on Saipan, Tinian, and Iwo Jima.

Dutch war court in the Hague, Netherlands in 1948. Hanns Albin Rauter, Nazi police leader on trial for his crimes in German occupied Netherlands during World War II. Dignitaries and people in courtroom stand up as the judges arrive and take their seats. Session of trial begins. Views of prosecution desk and tribunal seen in turns. Hans Albin Rauter is being questioned by judges. 1942, 1943, or 1944 flashback scenes of Jewish, Dutch civilians being rounded up and deported on railroad trains to forced labor camps and concentration camps, while in background audio the prosecutor reads the charges. The round up footage first shows Jewish families with women and children being directed onto trains at a train station. A subsequent shot shows Jews exiting cramped railroad train cars and being lined up under Nazi guard at concentration camp. Documents about crimes committed by the accused are shown. Another man enters the courtroom, takes the oath and is questioned by the tribunal. The man is a supervisor of slave labor prisoners working for the Germans, and at the time of the trial was detained at a Rotterdam Penitentiary.

A sailor communicates over the radio. Sailors on deck, the bow and deck. Combat cameramen record the CG activities including a religious ceremony. Sicily Invasion, 1943: Combat cameramen capture the scene as a German bomb hits an ammunition ship off the coast. Explosion on the ship, a mushroom cloud rises up. Sailors watch with binoculars. Normandy, 1944: Allied troops climb down rope ladders into Landing Craft Personnel (LCP). which deliver the men and cargo to the Normandy beaches. Soldiers wade through the water towards the shore under enemy fire.
