Two chase planes break off from escorting an X-15 as it commences final approach to runway at Rogers Dry Lake, Edwards Air Force Base, California. The X-15 descends between surrounding hills, in a nose-high attitude and touches down on its skids, raising a trail of dust. Its nose gear contacts the ground immediately after its main gear skids.
