The freighter, SS Flying Enterprise, damaged by storms and foundering in the Atlantic ocean,
The freighter, Flying Enterprise, is seen listing some 80 degrees to port in the windswept approaches to the British Isles. After suffering damage from a storm on December 28th, she had been taken under tow toward England,by a succession of ocean-going tugs over a period of 15 days. Her present position is only about 30 miles from the coast of England, but her tow line has parted and she is foundering. Closeups of "Flying Enterprise" and "Isbrandtsen" painted on her hull. (Narrator states that the Captain, Henrik Kurt Carlsen,is still aboard.) Aerial view of several other ships around the stricken vessel. Officers and crew of the destroyer, USS Willard Keith (DD-775), are seen firing a line to the Flying Enterprise. Heavy seas are flowing over the foredeck of the destroyer. Another view of the listing ship. (During these scenes, Captain Carlsen is heard on the radio, in the background, describing the circumstances leading to their present trouble.) More views of the Flying Enterprise, helpless and battered by wind and seas, before eventually sinking (not seen). Narrator states that Captain Carlson was rescued. (Note: This ill-fated trip which ended in the sinking of the old Liberty Ship made world-wide news when it turned out that she was carrying paper money.)

Launch of the Fourth Liberty Loan Drive in Washington, DC. U.S. Navy Brass band entertains crowd of thousands gathered around the William Tecumseh Sherman Monument and equestrian statue in Sherman Square near the Treasury Department at E and 15th Streets. The Washington Monument can be seen in the distance. John Phillip Sousa, in uniform of Navy Lieutenant Commander, conducts the band in front of the Treasury Building. Secretary of the Treasury, William Gibbs McAdoo and his wife, Eleanor Randolph Wilson McAdoo, stand with John Poole, Treasurer of the Washington District Council of Defense, at a bunting-covered step at the front of the Treasury building. McAdoo gestures with his hat as he speaks, encouraging the crowd to buy Liberty Bonds. He is joined by Sousa, who points a few times at elements of the band (unseen) below. The camera pans across the crowd. Sousa is seen below the steps, again, conducting the band. Scene shifts to McAdoo on the Treasury Building steps. He pulls his hat down on his head. Sousa, again, stands beside him. They shake hands. Scene shifts to side view of the Treasury Building steps, where Vice Admiral William Sowden Sims, Commander of U.S. naval forces in Europe, is seen speaking to the assemblage, which includes a number of U.S. Army soldiers in uniform. Views of The Great Atlantic Hurricane lashing at northeast United States areas (after having already hit the North Carolina Outer Banks), and views of the aftermath and early cleanup following the storm. Regions shown include Atlantic City, Long Island (where it came ashore as a category 3 hurricane on September 15, 1944), New York City suburbs, and parts of New England. High surf flooding boardwalks and coastal cities. Trees bent over and snapped in high winds. People walking with difficulty in the high winds. Streets of towns submerged in water. Coastal docks destroyed and large boats scattered high onto shore areas. Trees, poles, and wires downed over roads and homes. Entire homes moved off of their foundations and placed down the street. The "Great Atlantic Hurricane" was the first example of a named hurricane by the Miami Hurricane Warning Office, which later became the National Hurricane Center. The name was meant to reflect the hurricane's size and intensity.

Greek Prime Minister, Themistoklis Sofoulis, boards the Greek Destroyer, RHS Hastings, in the Port of Piraeus.
Themistoklis Sofoulis (Sophoulis) Prime Minister of Greece, arrives at the port of Piraeus. Officials greet and welcome him. A color guard of Greek sailors presents arms in salute as Sofoulis is taken by the arm and escorted by a Greek admiral. He doffs his hat in acknowledgment. With the Admiral at his side, and , surrounded by civilian officials,and several naval officers, he makes his way to the Greek Navy Destroyer, RHS Hastings, tied up at the pier. A junior officer assists him as he ascends a gangway to board the ship. On deck, the ship's captain greets him and introduces several junior officers who salute and shake hands with him. The Greek National flag is seen fluttering in the breeze from the ship's mast. View of ship's bow as forward line is hauled aboard. The Greek State Flag is displayed from the ship. View from the pier as the ship backs away, followed by views of her underway. (This ship is the former British HMS Catterick, Class III Hunt destroyer, which was transferred on loan to Royal Hellenic Navy in 1946,as the Greek RHS Hastings. The number 15 appears on her hull which was formerly assigned to the Greek Destroyer Vasilissa Olga, that was sunk in 1943.)
