Events that initiated World War I and animated map showing involvement of nations from 1914 through 1918
Opening scene shows a man being roughed up by a group of men in an alleyway. A slate comments (in French) that when nations are bellicose, an assassination can cause a world war. Next, a slate shows picture of the world and states (in English) "One murder may start a world war." Another slate (in French) states that In 1914, while Europe's armies and fleets were more powerful than they had ever been, the nephew of the Emperor of Austria (Archduke Ferdinand) was assassinated. A front page is shown of newspaper, "Journal De Geneve" carrying the story. Next scene is a view of the city of Sarajevo. The ancient Emperor's Mosque dominates the scene. A slate appears asking Where is Sarajevo? It is followed by a map of Europe in 1914, which zooms in on Austria and Serbia and identifies and labels Sarajevo,in Austria, close to the Serbian border. Slates (in French) says Austria accused Serbia of War and other nations enter the melee. Animated World map shows the nations getting involved, starting with the German Empire in 1914, including its African colonies, and then successively showing Russia, France, Belgium,Great Britain, Japan, and the Ottoman Empire. Map advances to 1915, showing the Italian empire, Bulgaria,and Central Arabia. In 1916 it adds Portugal, Roumania. Next, the U.S.A. is added in, 1917, along with Central and South America, Greece, Siam, and China. Finally, the slate shows the war ending in 1918. Slate shows Armistice Day, the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th Month (November), with time shown on hands of Big Ben in London.

A British guest on labor exchange program visit to the U.S. is staying as a house guest of his counterpart American in Los Angeles, California. We see him with several friends of his host, who also work at the Lockheed aircraft plant. They are teaching him the card game of poker. The leave to attend a meeting of District Lodge 727, International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, AFL-CIO (Lockheed-California Company). There the British guest is allowed to ask questions of the union. He and his American counterpart are seen at a podium as the Briton asks about the strength of the union inside the Lockheed plant. The local union Secretary responds that they have 45 thousand members in the Lockheed plant and, noting that the British man was a shop steward back in England, mentioned that the local also had 3000 shop stewards in the Lockheed factory. The British visitor asked how the union would be affected after the war, when labor requirements would be reduced. A member answers that the first action would be to return to a 40 hour work week (from the wartime 50 hour week). He states that some workers would return to pre-war work and jobs. Finally, he says they expect Lockheed to expand the scope of its manufacturing to include consumer goods. The union is asked about accommodating workers returning from the military and answers that it is covered in the union contract, which calls for their seniority to continue to accrue while in service. The union also provides for war injured handicapped workers to return to work, and sponsored legislation to provide post-service education opportunities for all returning veterans. Asked about women now employed in the plants, one woman union member stated that many would return to their homes. But the immediate need is to employ more women to the help the Allied forces win World War II as soon as possible. Regarding the prospect of post-war employment, one union member noted the national need to convert from wartime production to the manufacture of consumer goods. The union members favored the idea of continuing labor union exchange visits between the Allied countries in the future.

The Castro-led revolution in Cuba.
Film opens with bongo drummer playing and other Cuban musicians playing instruments while dancers in fetching costumes dance and enjoy themselves. Scene shifts to view from water of Havana skyline and then to automobile traffic on a busy street in a commercial district of the city. A Busy street crowded with pedestrians on sidewalks. Cuban workers leaving an industrial plant at shift end. Smoke pouring from three tall smoke stacks in background. Large machines employed in a factory. A construction worker in the cab of earth moving equipment. A field worker rotating a long wooden boom by hand. Men cutting sugar cane with machetes. A farmer opening gate to allow water into an irrigation network. View of water rushing into the irrigation ditches and entering the area of crops. A farmer using cattle to pull his plow. Next, members of Fidel Castro's resistance movement are seen silhouetted against the sky, as they walk, carrying arms, in the mountain regions of Cuba. Fidel, himself is silhouetted as his men walk past him. Views of Castro's men moving through the rugged mountain terrain as shots are being fired. The combat becomes more intense. The views are from the Castro forces as they engage in fire fights with Batista forces (unseen). Machine guns are heard, and an explosion occurs. More views of the Castro forces using a machine gun and small arms. Scene shifts to a public square in Havana as it fills with people celebrating the downfall of Batista on 1s of January, 1959. Crowds surround Fidel Castro as he arrives in Havana. The crowds cheer him wildly. as the hero, and liberator of the Cuban people. Castro addresses the crowds from a balcony, promising them elections, land reform,freedom and the rights guaranteed under the Cuban Constitution of 1940. Glimpse of a copy of that document.
